What have you done to your tractor today?

Painted more JD Green and Yellow on the JD 110 deck and misc. parts.

Tore into MULEII's engine today and cleaned the 5-year-old shmegma out of the carb. rigged up a test tank, and lit it. Started immediately, idled nicely, revved up pretty good too. Bonus!

How do I put it. I started my mowers engine for the first time in 2 months.... still havnt gotten the idler pulley to fix it tho

I got my idler pulley at green thumb for 13$ it's metal.

Where's green thumb?

oh. i might try the autoparts by my house than check the one on military since its on my way home from work. i gotta snag my broken pulley tho so i can get the size i need

Finally got it wired up to the new key and relay . had it starting from the switch which is really cool . Have to solve problem of rear lights and have been looking for something to use a s a tail stop light that will fit on my mudguards.

Managed to bugger up my engine with the help of this group after posting pictures of my new starter and fly wheel no one pointed out that the ring drive was aluminum and would shred just that it need some adjustment . This is ridiculous as it could potentially cost me £200 if i cant find a replacement. Then to cap it all I post pictures of the gears mashed and some idiot laughs . So far I am not finding this site very helpful in fact it is helping me destroy my mower :-(

I took the ring gear off in the hope of finding a replacement and noticed one of the magnets was loose . Now i dont know how to fix this either. I am UK based so parts are hard to source

If the magnet is still in good condition, clean it and the flywheel surface very well with a strong solvent such as Acetone, and glue it back on with a good 2-part epoxy adhesive.

Have used some expensive glue to stick it. It sits nice and snug in its old location so hopefully thats ok. have been to a mower shop and they recon they have a new bendix and aluminum gear that will match and solve the problem I hope to pick it p next week thanks Doc

Sorry to see / hear about your flywheel situation.

I understand you are upset, man, but just understand that there are a lot of inexperienced people on here, and not all of the experienced people can be on, reading everything, all the time.

As for someone laughing at your expense, I believe the author was laughing at his own attempted wit, not your situation... it's easy to misunderstand someone's meaning. I recommend erring on the side of assuming people aren't intentionally scoffing at you.

Today? Today I joined the dark side, and locked my transaxle, as well as converting it to oil-lubed. Now when I get stuck, I'm in REALLY deep!  

Today, I installed a new carb on my neighbour's Massey Ferguson. Purrs like a kitten now. A big, angry, iron kitten! Muahahahahahaha!  

Refitted starter and flywheel gear last week fires lovely now from key especially with car battery.

Took body work off today after cutting initial hole through the floor of the seat to see what was under it . Found a hole straight down to the pully. Bought a PTO adapter and a PTO Jocky Clutch wheel still need a gearbox with a fork and pulley and the rear bracketry to hold the PTO device on the back to make it all work. Have re-cut the access hole neater under the seat . have been looking for information regarding the rear PTO output hole on tractors as have to cut this into my body work . haven't had any feed back on sizes yet I have 6" x 13" back area to play with . If someone can give me some sizes that would be very helpful.



Tomorrow hope to look at rear section and get some idea of how i can cut it to make the exit for the pto belt and regain its strength. I am thinking of using small garden angle iron to go around the perimeter of the hole i cut so that the belt wont cut if it touches it. This also might make it stronger.

Cut out rear section for PTO and painted was amazed to see blasting company had not painted inside so had to paint that two. Its now ready to fit cover of some sort

ordered a new main jet and carb bowl gaskets. ordered tire tubes and uni-air filter yesterday. just need to find good idler pulleys. anyone have any websites they use? i need a 3" od with 1/2" bore Vpulley idler

I was working on the new speed build this past week. Got it running and driving (no pully swap yet).

Today-

Having detected a growing oil leak, I tore the engine out of MULE. I found 4 sump bolts loose, and 2 missing completely!!! I don't know what the P.O. did to this engine, but he didn't own a torque wrench!

With the engine out, I grabbed a couple spare sump bolts and torqued everything to spec. Got it all back together and installed, and went for a celebratory romp. During said romp, I hurtled into a favorite mudhole. Broke thru the ice, and drilled the right front tire into the side of a deep rut. Blew the rod end apart, bent the heck out of the tie rod and steering arm. Look closely at the last pic. You can see the tie rod folded under the front left tire! Winched it out, cobbled the frontend back together enough to drive it back. I guess I have some repairs and upgrades in my future! Wrench, Wheel, Wreck, Repeat!

Nope. That's okay- breakage only serves to show where improvement is needed. My steering was still factory stock. It won't break again!

I think I killed my Big block single on my Poulan.  

on my murray i put a oversize tire in place of a useless rim and drove around a bit, pushed a dune buggy out the way, i need a new belt, it slips above 3rd, its '84 vintage, it needed replacing a long time ago.

Last night I pulled the little 6hp B&S Quantum motor out of my Murray. Such a small motor, it's funny that people thought I had some monster motor in there since it went pretty fast. It's all in the gearing, my dear Watson.
