| If I have a mtd lawn tractor with 10 horse Briggs with a 5 inch pulley on the motor and I mite get a 3 inch on the transmission will that still get a quick start to be able to race | |

| Totally depends on your needs. Are you racing in events? How long is the track? Will you need more acceleration than top speed, or will you be able to top it out and keep it there? | |

| Since my tractor belt is a little to tight if wen I put so it goes forward is it bad for the transaxle if the tractor starts moving as soon as I put it in forward | |

| Hey guys, it's FNR. Yall know what that means... VARI DRIVE. You're gonna want to gut that and get a clutch. then you can just run single speed. | |

Disagree... Vari Drive system is not that bad if your not such a bone head you cant contemplate how that do hicky under that der tracter makes moor powa... No offence dude but if you would educate your self on it, maybe you'd think the system might not be that bad? I get minimal belt slippage on both of my tractors..

| I agree with TroyBilt Pony on this I've had varidrive with fnr and it barely slipped and was fast even with factory pulley set up you can set it up to make it really fast and torqy | |

Yes I believe so. Someone did it on here.. Gives you a much wider gear ratio.

No its not. Its a variable pulley that doubles as a clutch. As your change gears, it changes your belt ratios.. Look at it like its a jackshaft setup even tho its not.. this is an example. Your motor runs to the bottom pulley and your tranny to the top. The way it works is the center plate slides up and down allow the belt into different areas.. If the plate is towards the top. its like having a small pulley on bottom and a big one on top. If the center plate is down. then it only allows the bottom belt to go so far into the pulley, and the top goes all the way in. I run mine in 7th gear all day long.. had the pony for awhile now, it still has the factory belts from mtd. The death machine does not because it didnt have any when I got it. My Pony does not slip at all.. even only when if the tranny locks up it will. Thats hard to do lol. Best part about these fnrs, is the ability to go from 7th gear to neutral without slowing down.. just slide it in gentlely and roll away lol.. Pony has done 35 on a coast.. Not recommended. I have minimal brakes (metal on metal) and steering is very sloppy. We had a clear country road to do this on. Anyhow, the point of the story is.(not to you crazykid1994, this is for the non believers.) Is I can say Fords are junk but until I get my hands dirty and work on it and learn how it works. How do I know if its junk? Well, jimbob down the road said so.. Well, let me tell you, experience go very far compared to some strangers word.. (not a ford hater, just its commonly said)

Neither.. Its personal preference I personally would keep vari drive and put the 5 speed in it if you have one laying around because they are easy for me to work on. I understand them. The FNR is no question about it is the easiest tranny to work on. Consists of very little.. I personally like the fnr transmission. But the peerless (especially the 820 series), allows for high speed gearsets, and are much easier to find parts online for..

| Give me your opinion on what I should do. So I have a 6 speed transaxle I was gonna put in my racing mower and redo the vari drive And put a different clutch . Or I could leave the FNR transaxle in the tractor and leave the clutch the same. Give me your opinion on witch I should do? | |

| If you want something thats gonna get ridiculous . (powerful) Than toss the vari drive.. it is only ment to spin at so many rpms.. eventually you begin to break things on it.. (reason war pig is crippled) | |
