| I've heard rumors that you'll be out at haspin. Is this thing going out there? Belt picks up some water on the baja sears, but it only throws it out towards the front. Doesn't bother me too bad, but people trying to hook up tow cables complain about it... | |

| So the ol horse has served me very well, but the last handful of rides she has been letting me down, mainly belt issues. I recently changed from a 6 to a 7 when I swapped the motor to a 18 hp Duromax. So I decided to pull it apart and make some long needed upgrades. First up is a overall pic of the belt system, you can see I moved my adjustable idler over a bit to work better with the new motor and pulley size. just fyi the new motor sits about 2 inchs farther forward than the old one, slightly longer bolt pattern than the honda and honda clone I ran before. You can also see the new adjustable belt brake. Close up of the adjustable belt brake, my problem with the factory one is 2 fold, Ive worn it out twice and rebuilt it with welds, and more importantly its not really in the right spot with how the belt runs with my current setup, basically I needed to run a size smaller belt, but if I did I couldnt push the clutch down enough to disengage before it hit the belt brake. the only way to get it to work was to run a size up belt, but then I really didnt have much tension on the belt because the clutch was already all the way out. Kinda hard to explain with words but if anyone really cares I can explain it in a video. This stop is made out of 1/4 inch angle iron so I shouldn't have to replace it anytime soon and I can adjust it as the belt wears in. Here we have a good pic of my extended belt guard, on my wheel horse where I have the very wide 13.5 rear tires, when I go riding at atv parks where there is mud that sticks to the side of my tire, the old open belt guard would scrap the mud off my tire and up into my belt system, forcing me to stop and pull the cover off mid ride and clean the mud out of the belt system. which was very annoying to say the least. here you can see the extension I welded onto the factory belt cover, I messed up my template and cut it to small, and this was the day before the ride so I just scabbed some scrap steel in the missing part, Ill remake it before I put it back on. Ive also been working slowly on a heavy duty foot throttle, I tried out foot throttle on our last ride, I just scabbed a bike brake on it to see if I liked it, and I did, I just hated the bike lever its self, so I decided to build one to my standards. Ill try to get some pics of it in the next week or so | |

| That adjustable belt brake and idler are great ideas. Someday I might implement that on Ol' Red. I saw in one of your videos that your gear oil was getting very milky after your rides. | Working on the new foot throttle, needed a linkage arm so I been working on this, first hole came out to big, even though I used a 3/8 drill bit for 3/8 rod. so I went a letter size U and it came out perfect, mild press fit on a 3/8 rod after I sanded the rod with sandpaper a bit. Much better fit, I drill and tapped a #12 allen bolt perpendicular to let it pinch the shaft for extra tightness, but even when I tightened it down, the shaft still slipped on the linkage if I twisted hard. So I though and though on how to secure it to the shaft in a positive fashion. the standard approach would be a regular square keyway. but even though I have a mill for the keyway on the shaft, I dont have a broach to make the keyway in the Arm. I actually even price a couple broach kits, but they seemed really pricey. so I found this, a round keyway, though its agreed upon that its not as strong as a square key, its perfect for the low amount of force that it needs to hold in this situation. I went ahead and used a roll pin to help keep tension on both parts. So step 1 of about 50 on making ultra heavy duty gas pedal is complete Carl, Thanks for finding that part number for me, the problem with that boot is its really just a dust cover, not a postive seal. if you look at the bottom of the seal youll see its round and is actually a fair amount bigger than the square boss that the shifter comes out of that its suppose to seal. I actually bought one of these many years ago and took it back once I saw that it doesnt actually seal. what I did to seal up mine was to pack the shifter hole and ball full of grease, and pack grease around the base of the shaft, then I very very carefully put a ton of silicone on top of the grease, kida like a cast in place shifter boot. its not perfect but it seems to be doing ok, I made a vid of it when I made it, but it got lost when my computer crashed I may join the wheel horse site if I get some extra time, but Ill be honest I barely have time to update my stuff on here. | |

| So I’ve been having some clutch trouble, as in I kept breaking the arm on the linkage, partially from wear, partially because of abuse, and partially because of some rust on the pivot rod. I’ll save the pivot rod story for another day. Long story short it all needed replaced. Yesterday I was working on the new pivot rod and snapped off my brand new 12 inch long 3/16 drill bit, so I got pissed and quit. Today I decided to do the removable pivot arm, you can see it next to the old scabby repaired one, pretty stoked with how this part came out. You can see the brass bushing next the hole where it’s gonna live, it’s for the clutch rod itself so that I can just replace the bushing when it wears out [/b] Couple more pics Here’s a pic of the other welded on side of the linkage, I just ground the factory welds off and hammered the old pivot rod out, I’m replacing it with one that’s center drilled and has a grease zerk, at least that’s the plan | |
