transaxle swap hard?

how hard is it to put a 5 speed in a hydrostatic lawn mower? i have a 5 speed and i am buying a 18.5 horse lawn general!! im so pumped. im just wondering how hard it would be to do the swap?

Not too hard the hydro cub I had didn't have a clutch, so asumming all hydrostatic mowers are like mine the most you would have to do is install a cluch the axle it self should bolt right up.

Shouldn't be too hard my 06 poulan has a Hydro and a clutch so all I would need to do is get the shifting linkage and tranny.

It all comes down to mounts. If they match up, its easy. If they dont, youll need to custom fab some and make it so your transaxle pulley lines up with the drivetrain, and that the axle sits square so your machine doesnt dog.

Not if it has removable mounts, I got my axle to fit by flipping one of the mounts.

My statement still stands. Not all tractors come with universal mounts.

Agreed. There are so many different tractors and so many different transaxles that you cannot count on a bolt-on swap. For many folks, the harder part will probably be setting up the clutch. Precise measurements from the donor machine would likely help.
