| Hello,
My friend and I are currently working on a Racing Mower Build and we were wondering if anyone had any experience with lengthening axles and also good ways for strengthening them. We were thinking about adding some box steel and bearings on each side to support it, but any help would be great!
I will be getting some pictures to show you all what the rear end is like on our mower.
Thanks, JC Racing | |

| If you extend the axles, reinforce where the original axle bar and the extension bar meet with ome round steel. The, extend the frame out with your box steel and use pillow block bearings to help hold it. Without that reinforcement, your axle will just bend and you run the risk of damaging the transaxle and your tractor. | If its a stock 3/4" axle trans, it wont work - youll bend those axles - ive herd of racers bending 1" axles .
Options are modding the trans for a 1" straight axle ( or make it work with gears inside) which isnt cheep for machining or run a peerless 700 to a straight rear axle.
If its for actual racing ( on tracks) im sure the rules wouldnt allow it. | |

| Thanks guys for responding. Not to go against what you said dangeroustoys56, but we did go ahead with widening it. we have a bunch of trouble because we had two Peerless's and were going to take the long shaft from one place it in the one were using on the short side, and weld on a short bit on the longer side. Turned out that the long shaft from our parts tranny was bent, so we had to buy another one online. We will not be racing on a track because we did not want to have to follow any regulations and we are not sure where our nearest track is. His mower is going to be only raced by myself, on an old Mowett Mustang that has been completely rebuilt. I would thank you guys for both responding. We are soon going to make some support brackets that should take all the weight off of the tranny. When we finish that up I will post up some pictures and let you guys know how it turns out after some use and abuse!
