Peerless 820 Tire Size

What's the largest rear tire diameter you can run safely on a peerless 820? Tractor will be mostly used for mild trails and maybe dragging a deer out of the woods here and there along with the occasional car show, so no real heavy abuse. PFA

Considering they typically come with 23x9.5-12.  I don't see any issue going up to 25" (if it fits) on mild to semi-aggressive use.  "Typically" clutch dumps and beating them on something is what breaks them or a flaw somewhere.  Want more power to the wheel, maybe drop to a 22" unless you need the ground clearance.  Just remember, the bigger the tire the harder it will be to stop.

I run 22x10-10 in Bowser.
I ran 23x10-10 on li'l Red as well as a 24x10-12
(same 820)

I’ve broke a few 820’s with 18.5” rear tires. Granted, that was at Haspin which is like the Bermuda Triangle for tractors. Stuff breaks for no reason there.

The weakest point of them are the shift keys. 820’s handle RPM better than they handle torque. Dragging out a deer is about as far as I’d trust an 820 to tow

You’re pretty much safe to 25s. If you fozzy lock it, remember to fill in all the teeth on the spiders you’re not using. If you half ass locking the differential you’ll break it in no time.

Remember to give the clutch a little feel to make sure you’re in gear before you dump it. If you don’t you may break off the end of the shift keys as they won’t be fully “set” yet. In my experience, if your keys are set and in good condition, you can put enough torque to the trans to literally rip it in half before the keys break. Like, i just won 2nd place in the top tractor challenge, and i was downright cruel to my 820 getting that spot. I’m not afraid of dumping the clutch.

I don't exactly plan on dumping the clutch too much, this is just my fun mower. The racer can take all the clutch dumps instead But I'm glad I asked because I was looking at a set of 28s (I'm lifted and can fit them) but I see that this might not be a wise decision now

If you just want to putt around on 28’s you’d probably be fine. But if you want to wheel it with 28’s I’d personally advise against it. A roper 633, peerless 2300, or wheel horse 8 speed would handle those just fine. But definitely pushing it on an 820

I ended up getting some 27's, kind of a middle ground. I'll do somewhat mild wheeling but nothing to destroy it. I have a GT6000 to abuse harder than the show tractor

i run around an mst206 with 25s and my build off rig has 26s and they are way too big but havent had any issues yet

if a mst can take 26s i bet an 820 will be alright with 27s then

@LJHunter429 what size lift are you running?

About 3.5 inches. I stacked two lt frames on top of each other so it's kinda like a body lift that added twice the chassis rigidity

Ok I see how ya did it now. How are you running a belt Are you running a small jack shaft to the transaxle?

I shaved down a deck drive pulley to drop the belt down to the lower frame and use the clutch from the lower frame, not ideal for a lift that's supposed to keep stuff out of water but now i can fit big tires that help with that. Transaxle is mounted in the factory spot on lower frame.

@LJHunter429 that's actually a pretty good idea. Are You going to be running bigger tires up front?

Currently have 21s. Itp holeshots on Yamaha blaster rims

I have a DGT6000 with a 633 I plan on putting 23s or 25s on the front of actually
