Hi,
Charlie here. New to the forum and looking to modify a mower to use in our garden that has a steep bank. Have my eye on a Westwood t1200 as the older tractors look stronger and more suitable to mod in order to minimise chance of a roll and to mod to minimise the damage if it does roll!

Will keep you updated on my hopeful purchase and would love any ideas on how to turn it into what I need.

Thanks

Charlie

Welcome to the ATLTF!

I looked up the T1200 and it does look fairly rugged,  believe it or not a member here has a (long) thread on one!
https://www.atltf.com/t4655-86-westwood-t1200

I would advise against a roll bar unless you have a really sturdy seat belt or a harness, if you're going to roll its best to be thrown off and hopefully clear of it the last thing you want is to be crushed/pinched by the roll bar. Think of it this way,  there are 2 kinds of Go-Karts, kinds with no roll bar/cage or seat restraint and off road karts with full roll cages and seats with harnesses. Alot of reading had me understanding why and agreeing with the "experts" of that world.

If you're going to get crazy, wear a motorcycle helmet and please keep hands and feet inside the ride!  Lol

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
Very interesting comments re roll bar. Was going to use it for mowing the bank, so not sure if I want to be jumping out if the deck is running.
It’s steeper at one end of the bank, so wondering about cutting down only and doing a circuit coming back up hill on the less steep end?
Has anyone experience of putting double wheels on the back?
From what I’ve seen on here, some of the hills people go up are crazy, but probably not with a stock 12hp engine!
