so i know ive got a good runnin truck but id like a project truck and i found my DREAM truck options are right exept its brown and rusty. rust isnt no issue i can fix rust and paints no issue but its got a bunch of small issues and has been started in 6 months its a 70's square body chev and i love those trucks. just ive gotta trade two of my favorate builds and one i dont even care about. im trading: a running sorta rideable drift trike, Craftsman Buildoff tractor, willard( honda swapped craftsman GT) im recieving: a broken and rusty BROWN square body chevy witha v8 automatic 2wd c10 fleetside single cab bench seats with old tires a bad brake line and new floor pans that arent installed
pros its my dream truck v8 automatic c10 cons its a pile of junk needs as much work as MM's F250 i have to pick it up ive gotta trade my buildoff tractor
Should i make the trade? i dont have really a place to store it and i dont have enough income to buy parts unless they are from the nearby junkyard and id probably have to sell my camper to afford the truck parts which im willing to do

I'd say it's not a good idea just based on this comment, it's going to end up being something hanging over you and maybe a stresser... ask me how I know! Lol. I did exactly that same thing, scored a decent 1979 C10 for cheap and it ended up being a nuisance for almost 10 years until I traded it for my Bolens G10.
Don't make the same mistake I did, wait until the time is right and something else will come along plus you already have a truck to work on! Lol.
well the truck is the exact options i want the cabs still there not complete junk the doors arent rotten from what i know and its close by and a decent deal i can find somewhere to store it and i can come up with funds to fix it because where i live its a perfect place to restore a square body due to the fact theres garages fulla squarebody parts in my town considering theres five or six half to fully restored squarebodys here. also my other truck is a obs k1500 and its not much of a hot rod 200k on the clock real rotten but is just used for its useablity mainly winter driving

Lol nah I’m kidding! Sounds like a good deal to me, but if you don’t have a reasonable place to store it or can’t make the deal without being in a tight spot, I’d have to go with a no as well. There’s a lot of 70s sqaurebodies around with the same specs you mentioned. Best thing to do is to wait until you know you can make the deal without it becoming a problem. Even if it’s a good deal, there could always be a better one. I found a couple good deals on FB Marketplace when I was looking… but I was patient and persistent and ended up with the perfect truck and for free at that. And ya never know, maybe that truck will still be available when you have the space and funds for it.
That’s just my 2 cents. In the end it’s your decision.

I know a few people that have restored and fixed up classic trucks and the rule of thumb is whatever budget you have will get well over. If it’s a tight squeeze now I’d hold off. You’re young, more c/ks will be along. If you do go for it, make sure you know from the get go exactly everything the truck needs and leave some extra on top. You could consider selling your k1500 and using the money to top off everything because it sounds like your current wheels need some TLC as well.
Basically whatever you do go in with a clear plan and expect to invest a LOT.

well heres my reasoning which is sorta making me lean for getting the truck (77 gmc sierra) is well my grandpa wants to take his 50's merc on hotrod power tour after he puts ac in it LOL and i dont have a hot rod but i wanna go to events and car shows, my other wheels weigh like 5500LBS, and a single cab short bed weighs like 2800LBS (including it being on a rust diet) and is 2wd auto with a carbalator AND im gonna make sure the gear ratio is optimal for cruising because ive got my other truck for pulling stuff, and i want a hotrod that can still be used for working but save some $ on fuel and look cool while doing it

Hey there! I stumbled upon this old post and wanted to throw in my two cents. It sounds like you were on the fence about making a trade for your dream truck back in the day.
