Hello from Colorado.........I just bought an old wards rider [1971] to tinker with......I'm an old man that has worked hard all my life and I just can't sit and twittle my thumbs.....I 'm having a good time working on this machine...... this little tractor takes me back my childhood trying to build a go cart from anything i could scrounge up in the neighborhood...
I've removed the deck [I don't plan on it mowing any lawn] I have a newer [1984 lawnchief for that] ......my plan is to get it mechanically sound then build a snow blade forit......
I;ve got it running good and finally got the governor and the carb working together,,,,,,,the guy that I bought it from had bailing wire hooked the throttle and choke.....these old flat heads must be like timex....."take a beating and keep on ticking"
The throttle butterfly will lock up in wot If i don't have the linkage the exact lenght it needs to be........I know it won't last long so I'm hunting for a replacement carb... This is a great site.......it sounds like there a lot of builders and tinkerers here....Thanks for having me.......

11 horse briggs flat head, don't know if it's original. I had a hard time getting a good ground to the starter and the problem was between the engine and the frame.....so it could have had an engine swap.....I'll posrt some picks when i get some.....so you guys can give me some info on it. It has a tag under the seat, but all i can make out is "wards".........
It is fun to work on, I have a 72 monte carlo 402 big block [I bought new] that i keep in good running condition and it is also a lot of enjoyment, but i can't tear it up, if I have a mind to

all one piece cast.....I hope to find the right one.......my engine shroud is stamped 287707......can't seem to find that number listed with any of these carbs...and I found out that it does NO good asking the sellers... so far any way.......I'm hoping one of you guys can tell which one i need.........I like this style of carb, very simple and easy to ajust
I grounded the battery and the solinoid onto the frame in the box that i built on the back and did put a heavy ground from the frame right to one of the mounting bolds on the starter......NO hestitation in tha spin now!

This one was due to a super long link. I fixed this one. I'll look over there as well.
Edit: Not seeing another. If you can, use the report link on a post for me to find it. On the desktop site it is a badge. Don't think report is on mobile. Just PM me a link to the topic.
