I was given my grandpas airplane engine project he converted it to side shaft and it ran and picked up oil until it got warm and stopped picking up oil its had the pump modified to pickup oil from the bottom of the motor and it has an oil pressure gauge. But the issue is the pump isnt strong enough to hold pressure. So i am gonna add a 12v oil pump and possibly oil cooler so i can make sure it gets oil theres a oil pump cover and i thought to drill tiny holes in it and make a second cover with a barbed fitting in it for the oil pump to hook to and pull oil from the bottom of the motor with another fitting

That's sweet, what a cool engine to have gifted to you!! What oil are you running in it? It may have been designed to run a thicker oil than normal because of increased demand? Perhaps 20w50? In a car, oil actually takes a lot longer than coolant to get hot, when the temp gauge gets to normal temp the oil isn't even halfway to being up to it's own temp and when oil gets hot it gets thin, could possibly explain the loss of pressure BUT what is the pressure cold vs hot? I'd start digging around and doing research on ultralight aircraft engine mods before diving too deep.
How did you know it was for an ultralight lol. Also id have ti ask him about the oil thing because i have no idea on that the pump lost prime when it cooled off after running. He probably used 30w because thats usually what he uses

I didn't but 25hp isn't going to work on any aircraft much bigger I'd figure! Plus guys use motors like it for ultralights. Was I right? I love when I'm right! Lol.
Well he also said that he didnt bolt in the freeze plug or anything that he made oil pickup with and he just tapped it in there so it mightve came out so ill pull the side cover and check it out. As for plans with this engine i plan to put it on my sears suburban if i can get it to have oil pressure and everything working ill build the motor a little bit and put it with the biggest pully that will fit and slap it on my sears.
