| Hello, I am new here and I am going to build an AMF 1010 garden tractor. I saw creepy crawler's AMF and thought about my 1010. It has a Tecumseh 10hp on it and a 4 speed with a vari drive. My AMF 1010 has the same stuff as a massy 10 would just different grill and hood. I wanna build it like crazy carl's wheel horse, so if you have any tips that would help a lot. I am cutting a set of turfs for now until I save money for a pair of back tires. Also what kind of front tires should I get? The size is 16x6.50-8, the front tires are dry rotten and don't hold air. I will try to get pics of it, but it is not a bad tractor to start with. Thanks, @Northwest_Ohio_Mud_Mowers | |

| Update cleaned the carb and runs great, also what are some things I can do to my tractor to go to haspin next year? What are some things I can do to modify my 10hp Tecumseh to make more power? | |

| For haspin, get all the weight as low as possible. If this tractor is fairly tall or you plan to make it tall for the terrain you ride at home, antifreeze in the front wheels is a great option. You don’t need a massive pulley swap as there’s nowhere to really go fast there without absolutely killing your back. If it’s dry, turf tires grip fine, but if it’s wet, NOTHING grips. A welded diff is almost a must. Going down some of these hills with an open rear end is extremely sketchy at times. If it’s a heavy tractor, a winch is also a good idea. Mines juuuuust light enough that I don’t need one. Sturdy steering. Bendy steering there is a bad idea.
I’ll be honest with ya, don't do what I did. Don’t build your tractor (or drastically change a bunch of things) the week before haspin. If you build it now and thrash it for a few months beforehand and nothing breaks, it should do just fine. If it’s a heavy tractor, a winch is also a good idea. Mines juuuuust light enough that I don’t need one.
Then there’s the obvious things, camping gear, more clothes than you think you’ll need, a helmet (required by the park), and whatever tools you need to do 90% of the work on your tractor. We are all around with our tools as well so if you forget something chances are someone there will have it. Also a few basic spare parts, idlers, belt, solenoid, and a handful of the usual nuts and bolts.
I THINK that’s everything. Hopefully you aren’t overwhelmed by the long post haha

| For haspin you'll need a locked rear at least. Some good working brakes are nice.... well alright, pretty much essential. The hills there are pretty crazy in places. And when your following the group and they're heading up a hill, you kinda gotta go.
To be realistic, the bare minimum you need to keep up at haspin is at least a mild pulley swap, then better brakes and a locked rear. After that beefier steering and some bigger than stock tires. If you have a mild kinda build, you don't have to have crazy tread on the rear tires. That helps in mud but most of the time, as long as you have something better than turfs, your alright.
You can do quite a bit with your 10hp in stock form. Most of us bypass the governor or remove it so you can use the throttle when you want and it's more predictable that way. Actual engine mods like different inside parts/cams ect can be real expensive and generally not worth it unless your really going crazy. If you have a welder or something you can make a pretty cool sounding exhaust, that's my favorite thing to do and it sounds like you've got a hot setup even if the engine is stock. You can paint the engine a wild color too and then everyone will be asking what you did to it lol.
(and what craftsman quad said too)

| Thank you for the advice, I have pics of a AMF like mine I can try to upload. How do you put antifreeze it the front tires? Right now I have 23x6.50-8 tires in the back is that enough? sorry for all of the questions I am new to this stuff. | |

| I don’t personally run antifreeze in my tires, I’m low enough I can get away without it, but I know @creepycrawler does, I’d assume just pour it in the bead or remove the valve stem core and use a funnel with a tube If you put it through the valve stem, you probably won’t want the beads to be seated so the air has a way to get out. Maybe seat the beads, stand the tire up with the valve stem at its lowest point, and pry a little bit of the bead off the wheel at the top (180 degrees from the valve core). The more I think about it the easier it seems 23” tires are plenty for haspin, last I checked 22” was the biggest they made for an 8” wheel. Manufacturers vary slightly on the way they measure though so in actuality they might be 23 when measured at the top of the tread lugs. Also possible they started making 23’s for an 8 since I last checked | |

| You got a cool tractor there, my opinion pretty much matches these guys, bare minimum for haspin is a locked rear, good working Brakes and a mild pulley swap, shoot for 14-15 mph. For front tires run 19x7-8 Atv tires tons of choices in that size on amazon. They will fit on your existing front wheels. Then fill em with windshield washer fluid or RV antifreeze. I use Washer fluid. I recommend 2 gallons in each tire. Get you some atv back tires if you can or some ag treads. And go for a 6 inch motor pulley and leave the rest of the pulleys alone. That’s how I’d do it if I was you. Also like mr. modified said these motors really aren’t worth doing much with yo change the power level, your talking 600/700$ to do the kinda mods that actually make a real noticeable power difference and at that point you can buy a brand new harbor frieght predator vtwin and have way more power than even a modded stock motor | |

| That thing is nice. I wonder who made those rear rims for all these brands because they're all pretty much exactly the same design, just with different spacing.
Cool exhaust mods....completely worth it tho. For the sound and cool factor of course.
Oh and one of my personal things I like to do when I build something, make sure you don't have any sharp edges sticking out. If and when you roll the thing, you don't want a bunch of sharp edges all over. Probably not much you need to do with the stock tractor but if you add a lot of things it's just a nice idea.

| Here is an update I got an nice 1 1/4 exhaust from a friend that he was gonna use it for his pulling tractor. Me and a couple of friends have a pulling team called the misfit pulling team @the_misfit_pulling_team on Instagram if you were interested. but anyway I haven't put the exhaust on the tractor yet because I thought about selling it for a Honda three wheeler but I don't know yet. let me know if I should post stuff about our pulling tractors too.
Thanks! | |

| Nice tractor! I like the styling, it reminds me of the gmc cracker box semis they had in the 60s. To answer your question about the front tires, I put a set of 18x6.50-8 deestone turfs on mine and I have been very happy with them. They are harder to find though. The only thing is that they are 4 ply and I don’t know if that is too stiff for your purposes but I have had pretty good traction so far. My rookie opinion is that turfs will be fine until you get on ice. Either way, that is a very cool tractor with a lot of character! Can’t wait to see where you go with the build! | |

| No problem, glad it helped! Atv tires are probably better because you can get some floatation if you go in the deep mud, so good call there Edit: like mr.modified said, I wouldn’t worry about engine modifications much. If it feels weak it’s most likely got low compression. From what I understand some people swap in 8 hp engines to switch to a side shaft and those work fine, so your 10 should do well. Those 10 hp Tecumsehs are one of the better ones and they have pretty decent reliability from what I hear. | |

| I believe Doc Sprocket has/had some ITP mud lites which were similar and they performed quite well from what I saw. | |

| the only problem i have with mud lites is I don't feel they have enough tread, but mud light are always an option. | |

| well this is gonna be getting 29 inch ags off of the wheel horse I am thinking some get some fenders from an massy 10 raise them up trim the foot boards and it should work. Also I got some ATV front tires for the AMF. When I put the bigger tires on the AMF will it go faster or slower? either way I am gonna change the rear pully for more speed. not that the pulling tractor is done it is time I give the AMF some attention. | |
