| Well guys it's been a crazy week. Got back from FL at the end of last week, then got sick, still ain't made it to the junkyard yet, and now it's below freezing and rainy the rest of the week. So right now I can't reinforce it, can't pressure wash anything, and can't paint anything. Welcome to my world. | |

| Alrighty guys, so I'm finally starting to make some build progress . Got all that junk that doesn't allow you to put a 6" pulley on the front cut out... Got the frame painted... And I got the hood and underside of the body painted. And then I ran out of time and paint so I had to stop. All that's left is the top side of the body whenever I get more paint and time. Oh btw this is my painting room. The bugs don't help much, they like the wet paint LOL. So I really need to get the tranny back together but I need to know what to do with the wobbly gears. Do I replace them? Get a new tranny? Replace the washers between the gears? The casing is SUPER sharp too so idk if that needs to be replaced as well. If so then I'll just try to get new trans, but that WILL cost something big like tires or suspension . I also still have to get the straight axle for the Doc Locker which appears to be rather costly. That tranny is trying to kill this build LOL. It seems to me that wobbling means the gear shafts wore down giving the gears play, So I guess it could be anything. I mean something definitely wore down. I'm also about to tear into the engine and replace the rod or rod bearings. | |

Man, you guys used to praise the MST's and 920's, what a sudden change. Not trying to jack the thread, but I was never a huge fan of my 920, and I think that all I said was that the 820 was overrated, and that an MST would probably do about the same.

Yeah that's what I was goin' for. It looks pretty good until you really start looking at the details, but I guess all mowers do. The top side of the body had the worst rust besides the frame so I'm not expecting much there. I'll end up using 4 or 5 cans of paint not including everything that was black.

I have to disagree with that because my brother runs a mst-205 in his murray and abuses that thing pretty hard. They're tough little things. But this 1 may be too far gone so I might just do that. I wouldn't put it back in the MM (Mountain Murray) though. The MM would get a new 1 and the old 1 I'd probably just keep around until I'm ready to obliterate it By LT do you mean LT1000? How do I multi-quote?

By LT do you mean LT1000? LT means lawn tractor. Pretty much anything made after 1995, and a lot of things made between 1970 and 1995. A general rule of thumb is LTs have vertical shaft transmissions and vertical shaft engines, and GTs (garden tractors) have horizontal shaft engines and horizontal shaft trannys, or a vertical shaft engine and a belt twist, although I'm sure there are a few exceptions. LTs were not rated for ground engagement, they were pretty much just made to mow. GTs could mow, and the mowing decks usually were very convenient to take off on the fly with no tools, and were rated for ground engagement, snow plowing, snow blowing, etc. The John Deere in my profile picture is a GT, your murray is an LT.

| Ok got it. Still the 205 is pretty tough.
I came up with my own weldless locker so I'm gonna "experiment" with this one. If the locker works I'll post some pics. This tranny is right on the edge of going back in the MM. If I don't fix it it'll go in the Murray in my profile picture 'cause the pulley swapped hydro in it takes too long to warm up. I'll try to post it's thread tonight. Anyway I kinda exaggerated how sharp the casing was and I still have a chance of recovering the damaged input shaft so I'm gonna put it back together gears wobbling or not. When I first drove it I knew there was something wrong because I heard all sorts of squeaking and squealing coming from somewhere near the tranny but it also could have been that stupid tensioner pulley. If it is the trans then It's probably not going back in the MM because the price I'll be asking when it's for sale is way too high if it has a trans that is gonna need to be replaced soon. IDK maybe it is worth fixing maybe it's not, but I'm going to find out.

Well my daily driver has a hydro so haven't had much experience beating them Lol. First time for everything right. Alright guys, paint is DONE! Just pieced it together to get a taste of the color pattern. You can't see it but just like I thought, the body did not come out so well. So I am gonna put the ol' MST back in and see what happens. Gonna try some kind of a redneck fix on the gears, redneck locker, and hopefully get it back together tonight. Maybe even back in the MM tonight but I doubt it. All it has left is frame reinforcements and I can start the reassembly.

Thanks! So I did not get the tranny back together last night, but I can fix the gears, was able to salvage the old input shaft, and got the casings cleaned out. So unless we make it to the junkyard this week, the goal is to get the tranny back in the MM.

| So, gears are as fixed as they're gonna get, and we're now just waiting on the locker. I'm going to take it over to the welding shop and try to get it welded but I don't want to weld the spider gears. So I'm gonna look at packing a bunch of steel or something in the bowl gear and then welding it. Doc Locker is just to much money since I'm constantly fixing things on it. So that's what the connecting rod is gonna cost, The Doc Locker . | |

| I love small towns. Got me some goodies right outta the scrap pile and cut it right there in the shop. "How much I owe you"... "ehh $5". Although the guy for the tranny was not there today so we're going back over there tomorrow to get the locker done. Yes sir reinforcements are on the table. Gonna clean 'em up a little, slap some paint on 'em, drill some holes, and the reassembly starts. Also caught a glimpse of this while I was there. I think it's an old Dodge Monaco... Does anyone know where I can get a connecting rod for this motor?... | |

| Hmmm... must of thought the 8 was a 3. Thanks that helps alot. But $50?! . That's gonna hurt deeply. We'll see what happens. Well last night I drilled out the holes for the reinforcements so I was able to get the whole thing put back together besides the tranny and engine... Here is the frame reinforcements... The big piece is a little to long so I'm getting it re-cut and the tranny locked tomorrow if he's there. We missed him by seconds today. He pulled out of the shop and we pulled in at the same time. So all we can do is try again. Next I'll be putting the tranny back together and back in the MM, steering column reinforcements, Floorboards, and Shift knob. I'd like to have a new rod in the motor and have it back on the MM too, hand brake, and drive system (belts and pulleys), but I doubt any of that's happening soon. Turns out hood reinforcements will not be needed so that's out the door . It also needs a new carb but those are dirt cheap. Okay so that rod price is not making me happy. What it really needs is rod bearings so if somebody knows where to get those instead of a rod then that would be great. Thanks again @Crazy_Carl.

| The connecting rods in these engines use a plain bearing surface, so there are no actual bearings per se, same with the crank bearings in the block.
I have seen rods bored out to accept bearing inserts, but I'm not sure what something like that would cost.
