Before you cut. Is it possible to raise the hood?

I would say no, but anything is possible. I started wet sanding the hood down, I am gonna pull the stickers and do something like what your avatar pic looks like. That is unless I come up with another v-twin, I was really looking hard for a vanguard v-twin, but not too many around.

Holy crap so I think i finally have something I think I am satisfied with running, I saw this poopy rallye tractor for sale, so I drove out to get it, was missing a wheel, fender was bashed into the tire and it was infested w/bees (I am allergic). Anyway I winched it into the truck & exterminated the bees....pulled the motor & scrapped the rest.

So the muffler is just what I need to run the engine in this orientation & I am happy with the result....
I want to try and clean up the muffler cause it looks like poop, maybe there is a hi temp paint or something I can use....

Yes there is high temp paint you can use. They actually make paint for headers so I doubt that muffler can heat up enough to burn it off.

Any hood trimming needed to fit that thing?

yeah im cutting the hood, the engine is huge for the tractor it sticks way out on both sides....just want to get it mounted and move on with what is next..

So I am going to use these tires for now, some 23" x 8.5 Ag's I had around, I actually painted them black with "tire paint" because they are pretty old & I havent been able to find any used....

I also built another motor stand, and after changing the plugs my motor is running great, carb is clean & I am ready to drop it in and see what else goes wrong....

Im a fan of AG tires for the ole tractor look! Are you going to pulley swap around or keep it stockish?

I havent picked the engine pulley yet... it is a 3sp, for around my property a slow speed for driving in the woods is most desirable, but for fun I wouldnt mind to make it fast for the hell of it. I did do a big pulley on my simplicity but I took it off because it was too fast all the time & you would go flying as soon as you let the clutch up. So probably just keep it mild or I wont be able to use it.

Engine should make allot of power considering it was a 8hp before...

I ordered a wheel horse shifter boot for another tractor, and I think it will work ok, its too big, but I think I can put a hose clamp around it and make it work.....have to put the shifter back in...

got my rims painted up, and finally cut the stupid hood. Spent the morning cleaning and degreasing the motor.... I cant wait to get it bolted down....

the strange thing about this machine is that I have to bolt the engine down off center because the steering shaft is dead center. So on a small 8hp engine it is not that big of deal. With a 18hp you can kind of notice it a bit more.....

Got my rear tires picked out....still finishing fitting the hood exactly....

having a hard time deciding if i should do a rib tire in front or an ag tire.

Maybe some 8 inch AG's in the front spaced out to the same as the rears. I think would match up quit nicely.

I think ags in the front would look nice

yeah I have some 8" rims ready, I just need to paint them white, I do like the rib tires but they tend to slide in the mud around here.


Getting ready to bolt my engine down, but I am having a problem with where the front bolts are landing, will post pics later.

so a little change of plans......I kind of decided to do a little more than what I was planning, and I am going to repaint the tractor.  I dont know why but my wife kind of pushed me to do it.... the wheels are painted new, im gonna repaint the hood, and the seat pan....

It also turned out where the motor bolts up is right on the edge of the cast iron, so I am going to weld to plates with studs to be able to bolt down my motor.... I will have to drill out the holes on the base of the motor...

I am not sure how many other parts I am going to repaint...I will see what it looks like....

I am going to stick with the red, the IH red in the spray cans, Im not going to paint every single part, as of right now hahha....

Just taking off the old stickers and all ruined the paint and the ratty look I wanted, so I will make it look a little more fresh.

ug finally got both tires tubed up and monted, believe it or not the tires are probably 20+ years old and the rims probably older but they cleaned up well.....

Oh the tire tube thing!! Always so much fun. Lol your tires and wheels cleaned up very nice. Looking good

yeah man coming together piece by piece....gotta get some ags for the front....

Nice for 20+.  Any dry cracking or rubber coming off in a powder?  Looks like you took good care of them.

haha they have cracks, they were laying out in a field, but aired up at 10ft you cant tell & I spray painted the actual tire with black tire paint.

Gotcha...  As long as the cracks are shallow and it was still stretchy not to tear when mounting them. You should be good.
