Build Off Prize brainstorming...

First off I would say @redzz02 is the man.  Not sure if Doug or anyone else (Site Supporters other than redzz02) had any offerings for last year's prizes. 

I'd like to kick off and start a discussion about 2019 and further for prizes.  Many in the past have supported Doug in prize packs for build off winners.  I'm sure Doug has dealt with much financial burden purchasing and shipping prizes in the past.  This is just one of the things to think about.

First, what kind of prizes would you like to see?  I will accumulate the list at the end of this post as I can.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN GIVING IDEAS... 

1. Someone has to buy it to be given away.  Think about price and value.
   
2. It has to be shipped! Think about the weight/size and in many cases now, will need to be shipped INTERNATIONAL.  So IMPORT/EXPORT has to be considered and major delays at port of entries. They have the tendency to hang on to things for a long while.  Are there any restrictions on the item(s)?
   

• Donations of money?  Who/how will be the holder of this.  I have donated to help Doug.  We will revisit this down the line.
  
• Donations of merchandise? Stickers, shirts, tools, accessories... how to handle these items?  Direct from Supporter or ship to a prize coordinator?
  

Lets keep the discussion simple and light for now.

Hey folks!  I've been selling a lot of my unused surplus tools lately.  I had a couple things that weren't really selling but I thought to myself they would make a great part of a third place prize for someone.  One is a brand new still in the package evercraft screwdriver set.  The other is a like new set of Allen brand box wrenches that run a little longer than most wrenches.  The sizes range from 3/8-15/16.  Let me know what you guys think.

@MightyRaze  @Doug Well I think I've decided that I'm pretty much going to SPONSOR THE 2019 THIRD PLACE PRIZE!!!

Prize package will include:
-screwdriver set above
-wrench set pictured above
-a Lutz tools 6 in 1 screwdriver

-a Klein Tools CL210 400A A/C clamp meter (it's simple to use and works great for DC work too)

Right now, I have only heard @redzz02 and @crazy_carl offering to pitch in on the contest prizes.  @redzz02 had some great prizes for the build-off last year, but I feel I should help a bit too with @Doug getting back on his feet.  

With that in mind,

I would like to hear some Ideas as to what you would like to see as prizes!


@Crazy_Carl Would it be official to go ahead and call your stuff 3rd Prize!  Really making us step up for 1st and 2nd prize!  I will be updating your account to Site Supporter.

Yeah international shipping can be super pricey. Especially for larger items. (Or even medium sized items lol)

I could throw in a custom Mr.modified muffler/exhaust silencer if anyone is interested in something like that. Pm me or something if no one can get ahold of me. Or message me on Fb.

I think a good drill bit set and a drill motor(cordless or not) would be an excellent prize. Not too much of a hassle to ship either.

What is a mr modified silencer haha...

Something I use allot might be cool is one of those smaller Lithium Ion jump starters. Its like the size of a womans wallet, the cables plug in an out of it.... thats all i got....

Yeah, @redzz02 did one for last year that I got. I use the fool out of it.

As long as it is labeled properly.

Yeah...labeled as a non lithium ion battery lol.

And I could make up some other stuff maybe too besides just a muffler or whatever. How about something like a super spare spark plug holder as seen on my simplicity? Everyone needs one of those to hold a couple spare plugs. That would be easy to ship, nice and small.

Also, it seems like we have gotten more and more impressive and more expensive each year with prizes.  While that is nice, it does get pricey for those supporting.  I remember when it was one cool item and stickers!  LOL.

I will be donating prizes again this year, I haven’t figured out what, but I will. Yes the prizes are getting bigger and more expensive, but their are a lot of these builds that I see plenty of great potential in and we are just trying to give those people a big incentive to build their builds to the highest of their capacity. I’m more than happy to spend a little bit of my money to try and persuade others to either get into the hobby or build great things, but if we would like to get back to smaller prize pots I’ll honor that as well

Personally I'm good with what we can support.  I agree with giving others a hand up and incentives to join in. I also believe one person shouldn't have to carry the load.

I may also throw in a cheap harborfreight flywheel puller.  I use mine all the time with my oppys.  Pretty useful.  I say cheap, but I have used it for several years and have used it dozens of times without fail.

I would get the winner a new one.

Oh man, my life would've been soooooooo much easier with a flywheel puller for the Craps-man.

I could throw in a spark plug holder for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd I suppose. Be good to toss in with something else being shipped. Whatever you guys figure out is good with me.

Digital Photo Sensor Tachometer to my 2nd prize list. I think I will hold it to there.

How about a manual machinist's tachometer? These are quality, have been in use over a century. These are the kinda tool that get passed on for generations. These are starrett, but I have a craftsman one. No batteries to replace either!

Haha, for a second I thought, "what the heck is he talking about?!" But yeah, I have 2 other motors right now that could use it very much. I think it'd be a great second place prize!

Have yall ever done Build-off T-shirts? I was looking at the ATLTF Gear/merchandise thread, and thought, "if we can't do a ATLTF merch/T-shirt thread, why can't we do a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ATLTF build-off shirts?" Have yall already tried or thought about that in the past? ( I'll probably get told that we already do that and be wasting my breath LOL!)

@Murraymountain I did personalized atltf t shirts the one year but I kinda like the first second third place specializes t shirts myself, maybe I’ll do that this year what’s everyone else’s thoughts?

The thing about shirts are everyone is a different size. I always feel bad because I am a larger guy and hard to find tshirts my size.
