| Got a chance to go out and do a bit of riding friday evening. Beautiful weather ! had to winch out of this one ! didn't realize left front tire was wedged into a 6 inch limb. caused me to dig in ! winch wouldn't work to reel it back in would only winch out so had to pull the cable all the way out and reel it back in backwards. but it worked | |

| Cool build! Never looked at this one before. I actually just got a vertical 20.5hp pressure lube oppy the other day, doubt you're anywhere close to Russellville, KY though. I'd sell you it, would love to see it put to use.
You sure the rod knock isn't just the natural oppy sound? They kinda have their own unique clatter. You might also pull the back cover off and check the torque on the rod caps. They commonly come loose on oppys and give a knock. Both "blown up" oppys I've taken apart had loose rod caps, although one had ran low on oil/overheated.
Oppys get best lubrication with oil ¼" over the full line.
Oh, and all pressure lube oppys have a "Plus" on the tins. Might help you out.
Cheers! | |

| Oh does this rig have the 633? Didn't realize. Horizontal swap is definitely worth it, as i found with my GT6K. It's not even extremely hard if you have something to weld to the top of the frame for an engine plate. You don't even have to mod the existing clutch that much. | |

| The horizontal vanguard I have came out of one of those cubs. 1440 with the dash hydro. The shaft drive was cool and the thing was built like a tank but the hydro was bad so there wasn’t much we could do with it besides part it out | |

A lot of them definitely have a knock sound, which when everything is normal I (think) is in the valves. Redlinemotorsports opposed in his MTD had it pretty loud and we pulled the cover off to take a look. Rods and everything were tight in that case. My opposed that I had in my GTR 4 zero also had the noise and I had just assembled the whole engine from parts. Also a lot of people often ask about the noise on facebook ect. So I guess it's a common thing. Does make you nervous because it sounds pretty loud. But mostly I think it's just a design issue.

| It's not an issue, it's a feature! Haha.
Trust me, you'll know a rod knock in an oppy when you hear one. I've had rod caps come loose on both a horizontal and vertical and the noise is very noticeable. Interestingly enough, both of those engines still ran nice when they were taken apart, one even drove itself up on the trailer to be taken home.
That being said, there's only two ways oppys die: being ran out of oil, and being overheated. Keep your tins on and check the oil every day and it should run forever.
