AMF Rally mudder build 20hp vanguard, Locked ETC

Thanks MM I debated long and hard on how I wanted to brace it up. I didn’t really want it to be noticed, and I didn’t want to go crazy, the factory frame was really close to being fine as is, it was the notch for the front tires that did it in. I also have some 3/4 x1/8 square tube I’m gonna use for cross braces, it should clear the belt about perfect as I have a inch between the belt and the frame as is. Should really help stiffen up the frame for years of use to come. I’m really missing having this thing around the house, it was pretty much my go too for any kind of Chore or running around. Hope to have the cross braces cut out and weld prepped by this weekend, maybe even tomorrow and possible have the front axle back under it next week, we will see though, still a lot of stuff going on and it’s hard to dedicate much time to this much as I want to

Worked on this a bit more tonight, got the front brace and the and the square tube braces done, I think I’m gonna run two pieces all the way across to brace up the floorboards also, I laid a piece across to show what I’m talking about. Hope to get this part of the bracing welded tomorrow, that way I can mock up the rest of it later this week.

Thanks guys, it’s mocked up at about 3.5 inches wider in the rear and about 4.5 wider up front. Front is still narrower than the rear. I’ll have to run a doc locker with a extended axle but I’ve wanted to do that for awhile anyways. Hoping to have this thing ready for haspin 2020. Got some other cool ideas I wanna do to it but we will see what actually gets done

Looks pretty good so far. Probably a bit more stable with the slightly wider stance.

Totally legit. Old tractors look the best especially modded up and have a nice motor under the hood.

For some reason I don't think I realized you had a v twin in there when I saw this thing out at haspin. I remember the nifty muffler though.

yep yep it had some issues, think carb related, it would idle perfectly all day but loaded up bad above idle and would clean out sometimes and really scream but half the time it acted like it was running on one cylinder. either way I put it back together with a governer and for the tractors new intended use I think I wanna go single cylinder no governer, so Ill be bringing the motor in to clean up and pull the governerer out at some point once I get the frame patched back up.

You going Flathead single or ohv? Or kohler command?

I came into a weird engine awhile ago, its a 14 hp vanguard single ohv. Its full pressure lube, cant find much on it but it looks built like a tank, so Im gonna give it a go, plan is governer delete, 400ex carb that I have laying around from a atv project thats long ago sold, mild port job and either shave the head or hoping to lap the head to block and just run shellac or some other thin gasket maker, if if remember right Mr.Modified did that to the Gtr4

I’ve actually seen several of those vanguard singles. Looks like a standard model 28 OHV Briggs mashed with a kohler command single imo

your not wrong lol must be more common down your ways, if you happen across any more let me know I might buy them off you I like collecting motors

Made a bit more super slow progress, made this bracket to hold the front side of the bolt, pretty happy with it if I do say so myself





Also made a couple braces to help tie the front all together and serve as bumper mounts
But the pic thing is being stupid I’ll try later

Thanks Studabaker, I’m hard on equipment and I really want to be able to beat this thing mercilessly and not have to worry about bending anything.
Finally got the image thing to work again, here’s my cleaver braces and where they go.
