Instead of changing the oil twice I recommend filling the case completely with diesel, letting it soak for some time, drain it out, then fill with fresh gear oil and you should be good to go. Yes, Diesel Fuel is like a wonder tool for lots of Engine and Transaxle cleanup Jobs! I use it all the time for soaking engine parts, gears,.. and it works well! When U fill it to the top with diesel, then drive it a tiny bit (hopefully 2300 is still in gear) and drain the crap out, U will be surprised how much junk is coming outta it! and when U opened it up, it will be lots of junk in there too!

Did find a 2300 shifter for $70, but that's kinda ridiculous. Did find two 1200s for $80, the shifter should be the same. Gonna pick them up, might use them in a project, might part them out. Depends. Spare parts are handy to have.

- To be fair if you pulled the roll pin and removed the shifter from the cup, that piece could definitely be welded back on and fixed. Pretty easy fix that way, but in your case it'd probably be easier to find a parts trans.

- Eh, you probably really could fix that with a welder and a lathe.

But really, get it nice and clean there isnt any reason it couldnt be welded. Least none I kin figir... but dont mind me Im just a white redneck in the wilds of PA. - SebastianAlbrecht wrote:

Lot more than the one guy it seems. - SebastianAlbrecht wrote:
- Yuck the Oil looks like 2300 screams: REBUILD ME!!!
I would now finally get me a welder and weld this thing back together, pulling the 2300 apart, cleaning it, locking it, rebuild what's junk,.. I'm going to rebuild and lock it over the winter. I ain't going to tear the rear end apart less than 2 weeks before it ends!!! - Crazy_Carl wrote:

Yeah I had that idea but I concluded that it was a bad one, as long as someone reccomends it then I can always blame them. - SebastianAlbrecht wrote:

Idk if it's a good idea to drive around with no oil in the tranny...Idk. - TheBeal wrote:
