Yeah that's what I'm thinking because that engine is $990 on ebay, so I think I could part it out for more than $120. But I hope it's not seized or I could unseize it easily.

| I'm gonna have to do an old garden tractor build now and keep the good ol' Kohler in it so the legendary K Series will live on in the off-road tractor world, hahaha. That's the plan! Have a date to look at it on Saturday morning. Keep your fingers crossed it's not seized. - AllisKidD21 wrote:

Hey, I still have 3 Kohlers. The plan is, if I get me a welder, to build a homemade 4 wheeler with one of them. We'll see. But btw, the Case is a great candidate for that build!

That would be nice Allis! If the diesel isn't seized, it'll be a good deal for $120. It is missing some obvious parts though, hopefully it's not missing any other bits and pieces.

| Yeah looks like the starter, fuel tank, and exhaust are all missing. That stuff's not too bad though, I imagine the plan wasn't to use the stock fuel tank and exhaust anyways, haha. No, it's not, haha. I noticed the exhaust was gone, but in all the unboxing videos of this engine, it didn't appear to have an exhaust. So IDK. | |

| The older John deere garden tractors like these always seem to have some negative axle caster from what I've seen, I never knew why that was. Maybe it's when the axle pivot wears out a bit or something. This one also has a ton of outward toe. But it has adjustable tie rods so it's fine. | |

| So is it locked up? Or was it just the compression? Okay, so when I got there, I hit the compression release and tried to turn it over and it wouldn't turn over and was pretty decided that it didn't want too. I told him that $120 was too steep for me, and he said make me an offer. So I said, $50. He said sure. So that was surprising. Got it home, and the first thing I did was remove the recoil cover. And a nut fell out. Then I put my hand on it and IT MOVED A LITTLE!!! So I hit the compression release and tried again and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. My guess is the nut was jamming the flywheel, but that doesn't make that much sense given how hard it didn't want to turn over, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it! It fits under the hood of my JD perfectly, even the mounting bolts line up perfectly. Not going to try to start it yet because I have no diesel and there is no oil in it. So yeah, one happy guy here! $1,200 genuine Yanmar engine for $50. I assume it runs because it had great compression, no rust or anything, and I have no reason to believe it won't run. I am also happy that I don't have to replace the rod on the Kohler (which will be the first time I would have opened a crankcase) and reream the piston walls and everything, especially since the parts would have come to about $130 plus shipping and tax. | |
