[Complete] Highboy77's DIESEL CRAFTSMAN! [2018 Build-Off Entry]

This is my 2018 atltf Build off. I am using a craftsman high and low garden tractor it started it's life off with a 18hp kohler motor BUT I have a 9hp koop DIESEL I got the motor form my dad's work it was in a generator the generator part stoped working and they were just going to toss it in the dumpster thank God my dad got it in time because the motor was in perfect working order. My plan for this build is for a mud/trail mower planning on having it do about 15-18mph in high range




The mods that I'm going to do is.
•9hp Koop diesel side shaft ohv motor
•the tires are going to be the front are 19x8x8 atv tires the rear tires are 26x12x12 kenda executioners
•build a front and rear bumpers with led lights
•mount a 2500lb winch on the front
•custom exoust
•functional snorkel
•new paint and decals
•new and upgraded steering
•new fuel tank
•custom dash with switches
•pulley swap
•led lights and light bar

I finally got some work done on the ole diesel I got the old gas motor out and got the old wireing harness out and took every thing off the frame that I'm not going to use. Then I had to make new engine mounts I made them out of angle iron then I had to get the pulley on the motor I had my buddy take the two hubs to his work to get machined down so the one hub can fit over the other one sense I had to use the hub off the generater because the crank was tapered not keyed. I got that all put on then I got the motor all lined up and mounted it after that I built the exoust out of old motorcycle pipes I got out of the local junk yard I plan on getting more done this weekend can't wait to hear this beast run!

That is a really cool exhaust. I like the chrome.

Nice build. I've thought about an engine swap in my Craftsman GT to a horizontal. Lookin good.

I got some more progress done on the diesel the last couple weeks I got the motor all wired up and plumed turned out I need up having to get a electronic fuel pump sense my fuel tank is in the rear of the tractor but I got it all hooked up and got it running it sounds pretty awesome and it even blows a little bit of black smoke I'll have a video this weekend! Tonight I got my new rear tires mounted and put on the tractor. I had to put a 3/4in lift under the fenders to clear the tires. Then I finally got my hood mounted again I had to change the left hood hinge so it can clear my air cleaner.

That's one good looking build! Glad to see you've done some progress on it, I really wanted you to go through with your plans as I have not seen a modern sears with a diesel. Tweak the fuel system so you can roal some serous coal!!!!!!! Whoops , diesel enthusiasm kicked in a bit ....love the tires

Thanks ya I really like the stance on it too I think I'm going to give it a 1in lift on the front so the front tires will clear when I turn but I'm not 100% sure if I am or not. I'm going to be repainting it a dark gray metallic kinda like how it is buy a lot more glossie. Ya I'm hoping to turn it up some so it can roll come coal I got a buddy who is a diesel mechanic I'm hoping he can help me make it smoke!

Looking good. I am curious how you are going to route your belt putting in a horizontal engine in that configuration.

It was super easy the tranny is all ready a side shaft tranny all I needed is a longer belt and to make a couple belt gides on my motor

I've always wanted to see somebody do exactly this. You got rid of that belt twist these tractors came with and put in a horizontal shaft engine driving the horizontal input transmission. Seems like a a simple idea and it sounds like it was that easy for you to do. To top it off you put in a diesel. Bravo sir

I was planning something similar next year when i put the sasquatch tractor back to a Utility build.  Current config gives me no value.

That craftsman only has 1 clutch pulley? Interesting.

I think it's a custom setup. Looks like it should work great! Those Executioners look great on thete as well, haha.

The clutch needs a little more work but ya it's kinda custom.

Hopefully the idler on the tension side of the belt holds up over time. It's definitely something you need to keep your eye on.

That's one of the best rear tow hooks I've seen on a tractor yet.
