Yeah, but having it with three wheels might upset the build off judges, that's what I was thinking of doing actually. The three wheels in line could have bad stability when moving slow , or I could make some "training wheels" on the side of the two wheeled machine , but that's also playing with fire

Yeah its still a bike for the most part. We are actually doing a lot of changes in regards to aesthetics. Open sheetmetal will end up being constrained to require mower aesthetic.
Well I might be a little early but Im actually considering entering this one. any details yet?
Dave 007 will be back again for the 2018 Build off. Had a fantastic time. Don't think about it just go for it, I enjoy a good competition, and the more entry's the better the fun. I have been collecting parts and will be building a project completely different to my Speedster. Cheers and hope we have lots of people enter. Spread the word!

That bike would not pass as it would be considered a space frame.
So even if i used a mower frame, it would be considered a space frame? i would be keeping the hood, using the fender just cutting it up a bit, and have two wheels in line for the rear drive unit, and a large dirt bike front end . ( with a lawn mower engine and peerless 700 gearbox) Or is making a bike basically against the rules even tho it says nothing about that?

Doing something like Double W shared above would be a space. Something like a bike or 3 or 4 wheeler frame.
If your base is a "Mower Frame", or similar defined in rules, it is ok to come off that with say, atv front suspension. Maybe even something like a rear engine mower/rider with bike steering might even work, but the Admins would have to chime in on that one.

So have most of the machine being mower based with a little strethening is fine, but having in line tires , even if there is three or more points of contact it is not considered a mower based build? Are the frame rules changing this year too ? I can add all the mower looking ness i want to with body panels from mower.

To my knowledge "frame rules" have not changed. They will be a bit more strict on that I have a feeling this year. A couple builds in the past few years have started fine but crossed out of rule spec as far as frame went. @Doug and Doc will qualify the builds. I know you are concerned about your build, you may PM Doug what you have as far as frame goes, if you do not want to spill that beans to the group till entry time. He can clear things up hopefully for you!

Having just mower parts in the frame wont be a pass. Itll have to take on an appearance similar to a tractor/ mower. Thats nearly impossible with inline wheels.
Ok, thats helpful. i will start a parts pile and not put any money into it yet until the new rules are released. Mean while i will work on a design that looks more mower-ish.
