2018 Build-Off Discussion

They do run the risk for DQ for no monthly progress reports this year.  It will prune the list down to active participants.  To my knowledge Dave007 is the only one mentioned his build is on hold, but he is still keeping us up to date as well. Not sure what Doug's process will be.  Warn them first or what?  He shouldn't have to babysit the threads.

I think Doug should warn them after a month and take the thread right out of the competition thread section if it hasn't been active for two months.  If someone really wants to get back into the build-off the entrant should submit new pictures and a build plan to doug that he can consider on a case by case basis.  I feel like most of the ones that are inactive are going to stay inactive, but there may be a few exceptions.  Life happens.  Maybe an entrant is waiting for money to become available for parts or waiting on a friend with a welder to come help him.  Maybe some unexpected family emergency occurred.  I'd like to see the admins stay sensitive to those kinds of situation.

@Double W Cross Ranch I'm going to inquire my Dad about our small 110V HF inverter stick welder.  Between my dad and myself we have 6 welders, so I bet he would part with this one, and I'll send it to you with some rod if I can find the rod I used with it.  He barely paid anything for it.  I used it in high school to weld a four wheeler front end, go-kart rear end, and two bikes together to make an off-road human powered vehicle.  The welder worked pretty well on that project.  It was all thin stuff like 1/8" max.  It would be a good welder to mod nellybelle with. You just have to hold a really tight arc length.

No, it's just that I have access to one that my neighbor said they'd loan me, and NY and TX are pretty far apart and I don't want to put @Crazy_Carl to any unnecessary trouble/expense.  Thanks for the offer anyway dude!

In regard to the monthly update thing, the plan was to send a mass email to the 2018 Build-Off group monthly. Just havent gotten to it yet.

Havent thought that far, but I suppose if a full month lapses after the warning they would be DQ. There should be almost no reason why an update or a PM cant be sent notifying us of a potential lapse. Im not that hard to reach.

I like the idea of re-entering. I suppose it would have to follow the rules of initially entering, with a sign so we can timestamp the restart of the build.

Yeah, ive been working on some personal stuff, and trying to get stuff cleaned up at home. Spent over 3hr cleaning the shed today.

Ugh . Cleaning . My shop is a complete mess, with so many projects I need to start or finish it's piling up . Then there is school and homework , and working for neighbors, and then 4-h , and now managing my diabetes..... really nice to just sit down and do nothing for awhile.

Im halfway through my second workbench for my shop, but I got sidetracked. I want the shed cleaned so I can empty out my storage unit, use that money on more important things like Haspin.

Oh ok. I just entered a second build and I still have another to enter once I throw together the parts.

I made some posts linking the participants to update some threads.

I also like the idea of re-entering.  Only issue there is, should they be past the 50% and they just forgot about the site?  Would they not be eligable then, or could they "pick up where they left off in the re-enter since we would know it was built in the competition timeframe? Re-Post original entry image and the new?"

Just food for thought on that one.

[*ALERT-Update] added to some threads due to lack of update. Date has been documented. Not bad really, only 5 out of about 34 with lack of update. Better percentage than in the past.
