2018 Build-Off Discussion

Trust me, you werent the first one to bring up the idea.

We see all, we hear all. What doesnt get caught one year, gets fixed the next. Thats where the whole "living document" phrase comes from.

I am READY! Bring on Feb 1.

I'm not exactly ready...still not sure on how I'm setting up steering. Rest of the thing is in my mind.

well i got new parts so theres more possibilitys now for entrys. and i am going to try to get another lt4000 for a utility build off project like double w and the others

Gonna have a lot of competition! Thought I was alone, had a chance of winning! LOL

Im hoping for a few pages of entries this year. Make my job harder in December.

Lemme know how that camera works out for you @Maine Mud Mower.

I'll start 6 or 7 projects and then never update them just for you doug.

PS. Glad you have the Electric motor rule I might have an idea for this year that has never been done in the build off before. Will PM you a few questions on it latter in the spring.

To be honest, we never really did intend to rule out electric builds, it was just never really laid out.

I will try to enter at least 2 builds this year, maybe more depending on what machine i get my hands on .

Look forward to the second build. We should have 2 different build offs, one for unknowledgeable rednecks like me and the other one for rich masters like you, Doc, Red, Mighty, ect.

There should be a mini bike section too. Mower and bike winners

Trust me, I am no rich master.  So far I have put in:

$75 for tires
$10 to lock the trans.
$30 for the engine
That's it.  I got the mover for free out of my in-laws field because they were trying to clean it up.

I may spend another $100 to replace a couple pulleys and a belt.  Everything else is a matter of patience and waiting for a good deal to pop up here and there.

As far as master.... not sure about that either.  LOL  That's just wherever your imagination takes you.

Yeah I noticed. Wondered why, your build turned out great!

Honestly, I think is was a case of people wanting to see stuff that could rip up mud and dirt last year. I may have done better if I had gone all Dukes of Hazard with the build. With the lack of mud videos from their favorite YouTube celebrities, people were draw to those builds. :-)

yeah, should have painted a confederate flag across the hood....

Honestly though, I guess I should find some mud to romp in for the buildoff video, but mud is hard to come by in Texas.

Same here in Oklahoma when Summer and Fall comes around.  Only mud is in spring.  Make you a video ripping up that canyon! I think i sourced my front tires from the scrap pile They seem to be in good shape.

Well, theres always two wheeled mowers lol

The thing about winners is, its you guys who vote on it. Thats why we turned off new registrations this past year. Its not entirely fair to bar people from entering just because of what their budget is or how much of a following they have.

If you guys want to build bike-esque builds, Id suggest DIYGoKarts.com/vb/ . Thats where the Build-Off gets its inspiration from, and you can enter just about anything there. Although they dont offer much in prizes, thats an incentive that I started and why we bust balls on the rules and modify restrictions yearly.

The two wheel thing is by-basis. Tiller racing, like tater posted, is perfectly acceptable and is not defined as "inline wheels". Technically, it basically 4 points of contact once you add a sulky.

So have you higher ups decided on if small automotive transmissions would be legal in the build off?
