PostSubject: huskee trail/utility tractor build    Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build Icon_minitimeAugust 6th 2017, 11:37 pm

I've been wrenching on this tractor the last couple days, I got it on trade it wasn't running. I got it running after a few hours of trouble shooting I figured out it was just a bad ground from the battery to the frame. Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build 1098998679 lol I cut the shaft off the original pulley and welded it on the opposite side. It was the perfect length. I then dropped the transaxle and got the original pulley removed, snagged a donor transaxle from my garage with a slightly smaller diameter pulley. I will pull that pulley in the morning and have it running tomorrow evening if all goes smoothly. It has the same diameter front axle as my smaller custom craftsman's spare wheels so I will be extending those spindles to mount those when I get some bigger rear tires I'm thinking something the size of case 446 rears It does have larger axles and a bigger transaxle I didn't check the model yet but I'm hoping to get 15-25mph maximum. Here is a video of it running it only has maybe 6 inch pipes coming out so its obnoxiously loud but I'm thinking two stacks will quiet it down a bit in the near future. Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build 2664539216

That first transaxle looks like a Peerless 820. 1" axle shafts, nice! Hahaha. Case 400 series rear tires are about 31" I think, should look cool!

Its the transaxle that came on the tractor Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build 2240318088  haha I'm hoping they will look cool but I might have to widen the rear end so I'm not using the tires for arm rests. haha I've been doing some tire research I'm wondering how hard it would be to find rubber to fit the stock rims or would it be easier just to find some and figure out a hub? scratch  lol  I'm definitely doing a gas pedal and some bumpers. I will be hitting the scrap yard a couple times this week they always have good square steel tube and such. Get some offroad lights like AllisKidD21 has and maybe throw a winch on it. I will probably leave the steering for now it seems pretty solid. I would love to fab a 2 or 3 point hitch and use linear actuator(s) like this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X09LOOO?psc=1  I think that will have to wait a couple weeks though that actuator isn't cheap. I think that's about all I got in mind so far but I'm sure I will come up with more. Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build 1098998679

I got the transaxle back in with the new pulley, I think I need to do a dual pulley clutch like I've seen a lot of you guys use. Should I lock the transaxle? Would docs weldless locker work in it? scratch haha I don't know if it would be ideal though considering I want to use it as a utility tractor especially if I get the 3 point figured out. Oh and what do ya'll think is the best replacement fluid for the transaxle? I know its a lot of questions but I want to treat this transaxle right haha

From what I understand the ring gear setup is differenet in a 820 series than an MST or 930/920, so the Doc Locker 2.0 wont work. But Doc did recently come up with the Doc Locker 820 for the trans in Fugazi. He has a video on it I'm pretty sure.
Also 80w/90 gear oil should be fine for a transaxle.

to lock your 820 i would fozzy lock ot or doc lock it !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq0QoEjg2yk
for lube i use gear oil, doc used 15w40 diesel oil, i like the gear oil because its thicker so it tends to leak alittle less.. but if it gets really cold in the winter its a little stiff to shift until it warms up..

Cool Build ! Keep us updated !

Sweet thanks guys I will go with gear oil does anyone have a particular brand they favor? I am definitely doc locking it asap lol he makes it look so easy. I got some temporary belt retainers on so I can test drive it after I get a bolt for my drive pulley. I will go to the scrap yard tomorrow to find some metal for a bumper and maybe a better brake lever for the gas pedal I've got a couple laying around but they're a bit wobbly lol

Took it for a quick spin but I'm parking it until I fab up a double clutch the belt stays on but its very sloppy and wobbly with the clutch and spring it has.

This is what I'm working with I should have enough belt haha

I didn't find what I want for my bumper at the yard so I got started on my double clutch I had a piece of 1/4inch slotted plate steel laying around that I think should work perfectly and allow plenty of adjustment.
Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build Kimg0936

Here is a couple pictures of that plate cut so you can get an idea of what I'm doing.

It will have another piece opposite of the slot welded on so I can bolt it to the frame and attach the spring. It will sort of resemble a T, I will post more pictures tomorrow of the finished product. Very Happy

I started a new job so I haven't had much time to work on this. Build -Off - huskee trail/utility tractor build 2429134702 haha I finally got my clutch all welded up though and it is very strong I went with a thicker plate so it has more surface area on the bolt it pivots on. I'm hoping it will keep it more rigid and not wobble like the old one. Laughing

Clutch looks real good. I had the same problem with the first double pulley clutch on the MTD, too flimsy and wobbly. The new 3/16" flatstock one is much better haha. I really like the adjustable pulleys idea!
