John Deere LT133 Build

While out of town on business, I stopped by a junk yard that advertised having almost every model of JD lawn and garden tractors ever made. With the exception of a couple rare models that I never found, he was pretty accurate.

(This is just one of five areas full of Deere and other makes of lawn and garden tractors)

After HOURS.... Yes, hours of combing the piles of green treasure, I came acrossed several possible project tractors. With the others waaaay out of my price range (even after some wheeling and dealing), I headed home with a JD LT133. Not exactly my first choice when I arrived at this glorious facility, but its one that agreed with my budget and having the geared transaxle was a plus.

(DAY TWO)

After some extensive tinkering, I got the motor to run under its own fuel delivery. I replaced the torn up seat with an extra I had laying around and added 2" receivers front and rear from a parts tractor. Also, the rears were swapped for Carlisle HD Field Trax's ( 22x12-8 ) and the fronts were changed to Carlisle X-Trac's ( 15x6.00-6 ). Even though the X-Trac's are designed for snowblower applications they really look good with the oversized Field Trax's.

After a test run though the woods, I am more than satisfied with the tires and how they perform. The front tires really bite in good in just about any terrain I tackled with it.

Hey I have one of those! ...I'm not a fan of it honestly. Too complicated and it has a Foote rear end instead of a peerless. I'm selling it as soon as I get it running....

I've actually been a member for a couple years, just never posted anything I was building till now.. As for the LT133, I'm really thinking of swapping the Spicer for a peerless, just not really sure which one is best. I am open to all suggestions.

Subject: Hood Acquisition March 3rd 2017, 9:42 pm

I was cruising through ebay about a week ago hood searching for the LT133 and was presented with several options. One, I could purchase a reproduction OEM hood for around $350 with free shipping for both top and bottom pieces. Two, buy a used complete hood for about $250 plus shipping ($50). Three, buy a cheaper used hood from another brand and make it work, So I decided to go with option three. Now with the idea in my head I set off to find a hood. After what seemed like hours of going through sooooo many different styles and combing through sooooo many pictures, I made my decision.

Made an offer on this hood and got a killer deal. A few days later it arrived in a huge box and seemed to be in decent shape. I couldn't resist and just had to mock it up to see how it was going to look.

Looks really good with the Cub hood! I see you've got the clutch/brake pedal on the right-hand side. Makes it tricky when you want to add a foot throttle.

Thanks. I really took a chance on that Cub hood fitting or even looking good on the Deere, but it definitely worked out. As for the foot throttle, i'd like add a clutch pedal on the right side and leave the existing one there as a foot brake. Maybe trim up the pedal slightly to add the foot throttle on the same side as the brake. Any advice or ideas are welcome.

Just throwing an idea out there, maybe re-bending that pedal to be a little higher and closer to the dash tower, and mount a gas pedal from the outside-in at a slightly different level? All kinds of ideas would work I think.

That's a good idea. However, I'm 6'-6" tall and it might make it harder for me to transition from the throttle to the brake. If I can figure out how to make a clutch pedal on the opposite we'll be in business. If not, i'll have to put the throttle on the left side and keep the brake/clutch combination on the right side (which I'm not a huge fan of). There has been times where I tried to stop and was stomping on a clutch pedal that wasn't there. LOL. Definitely is an odd set up. Not exactly sure why Deere did it like that on these models.

I have a Craftsman LT4000 all-wheel steer that has the clutch/brake on the right and a deck lift pedal on the left. I can't tell you how many times I hit the lift instead of the brake. affraid
