| Got some done today and realize I do not like the front axle at this time. I think I have it way too wide now. I think I can chop about a 3 inch section on both sides, run some square tubing inside what I have and weld it back together. I think that will get me a narrower axle and strengthen it at the same time. On to other things, I have my front hubs and wheels ready. It is sitting on all 4 tires. I was able to get the tires from my parents today as well as my old spare for the truck. I also, did some drawing on the side to see about how big flames would be and how they may look!

| Heyy thats pretty good! I've always been a fan of those rims even though they're kind of out of style. Are you going to have orange flames? That would be really easy to just mask off where you want the flames since its already orange lol | |

| HAHA! Unfortunately I will be taking out that orange this summer when it warms up. Saving any painting until then.
On another note, I may be getting the murray tomorrow. We will see. I am going over to help clear out his field. The murray is in that part to be cleared out. Will also be using the big tractors to move a lot of dirt.

| I sat, looked and studied the front axle. I think I do not like it at all. I think I am going to punt and try again. This is a structural IMPORTANT part of the build that has to be pretty on. One of my spindle barrels is a degree off throwing it all off. 3rd times a charm I hope. | |

| For what its worth... I think a beam axle with the spindle ends bent up, something similar to Alliskids rat rod mower would look good on this. Those rear wheels you got... I assume they are the 5 bolt Ford and Chrysler used for years... they will fit the sears hubs bolt pattern, but the sears is slightly smaller, and it is difficult to get them strait, and centered. While I was swapping tires on my sears, I slapped some ranger, or bronco wheels on it for giggles.... its just too bad I didnt have the super swampers still mounted... | |

| I'm trying to stay away from "rat rod" and trying to stay more gasser hotrod. Gasser Hotrod for reference: ( image credit HotRod Mag) I think I am trying to put the axle too far forward. I think my next try I am going to put it back under the frame. Going to use a different metal too. I have a different idea in mind. In other news... Guess what came home with me today? Next year's build-off entry. Oil dipstick fell out. Oil inside looked burned, but no water! As an added bonus, I was told I could have the other murray he had as well. But back on topic, like I said, I'll put the axle back under the frame and not in front, also raising the front end like the Gasser style.
- Axle would not have to be as wide
- be closer for my brake lines!

| Thas a nice '55! If it's gonna be a gasser mower, ya have the make some intake velocity stacks that stick through the hood! That would look really cool. | Forgot to credit the image, updated.
I am torn 3 ways on that. I don't think I will have anything functional at this time unless I can get my act together and have a lot more time in the end of the build.
I have thought about the velocity stacks, I have thought about mocking up a fake blower/scoop, and just a hood scoop. Depends on the time I have when I get to the actual skin of the project. I'm hoping to have a rolling/steering chassis before the end of the month. I'm going to get me a saw for my birthday soon that will help me get my cuts a bit straighter. That will help cut down the rework of some things.
I have an old piece of steel that is HEAVY that I think would look great as a front axle. I may get that out and check it out.

| I'm sorry, the Murray was a little off my topic. I'm saving for next year! I have a bit of a duce coope idea for it for next year! I was hoping to do it this year, but I was unsure when I could get it home. I turned my attention to the Craftsman II. This will allow me to "better plan" for next year. I didn't realize how much "pressure" putting a timeline on a build could be! Fun none the less! I guess the Craftsman is "practice" for my next build! - Going off Topic wrote:
- I have taken all ideas into consideration. AllisKidD21 has thrown a lot at me. Like whitewalls, and his velocity stacks I am considering too for the murray. Thinking of running front grill without the actual hood. That's next year! HAHA
PS, in case you didn't notice, I like hotrods and tractors! What best than to put them together.

| Those Goodyear 70's took air and went back to shape. I'll see if they keep air. They have a lot of fender rub on them. If they keep air, I'll continue to clean them up and repaint the letters.
I think I have an Idea for my front axle. I think I can get my hubs to work with the original axle pushed forward all the way up the frame. Looks like 4 of the 6 holes already have matching holes in the rails. I'll check TSC for some supplies this week sometime and get it wrapped up this weekend so I can move to pulley swapping the trans. Once I get all that done, I will paint the axle and frame.
Then I can move to my engine and stop it's leaks.

| If I hit 20, I would be happy. I may be able to do it mostly through the engine pulley. Thinking I may go max size I can get up there and call it good. If I can get 9-10" out of it, I would no longer need the idler up front to direct the belt. I have a tire that is about 4 inches taller, so there will be some speed there as well. I think I can mod the spindle to fit the original axle. No sense reinventing the wheel. Literally. I will be moving the front axle forward still several inches, I haven't measured the change yet. I eyeballed it out the door this morning for work. If I was guessing, maybe 6 inches forward? Time to get some progress on this beast. I may upgrade the daughter to this build when complete and deemed "safe" to drive. I don't want a wheel or something that would cause it to flip or what have you going super fast!. Unfortunately I am already thinking out next year's Murray build at the same time. | |

If time and funds permit, I may consider. Nothing done today other than a road trip this evening to get a briggs in a bucket. LOL. Running or not, I could not pass it up for $30. Missing a starter.

| Not any real progress today, I did remount the original axle mount. Looks to be 4 inches further forward. It should still have a nice stance. Tomorrow is my wife's birthday, so I do not expect progress for the next couple days. I hope to have some "real" progress Sunday. I'm hoping for all fours on the ground and hopeful for steering too. If all that works out, 8 days from now will be in the upper 80's so I will hope to do a little frame and front wheel painting.
