I got a new belt today. This is my first try. I let my tires get too warm to try 3rd gear.

I gave it another shot today and I was able to crank it out in 3rd High with a little soap help, but it kept the smoke at bay.

Try bleach.

Interesting.  A little chlorine gas!  LOL

I'm crazy enough to try.

I think you are going to jinx me.  I am already thinking ideas to change out the front end again.  It would be taller not lower.  And quite possibly bouncier.  LOL!  And maybe stiffer on the steering.  It's getting loose on me again.  grr!  That front pivot is going to have to go.

I have it back in the garage and I am ready to get my materials to do this new mod. Just have to get back from vacation. :-)

Yeah I agree, the raised front end would make it look more gasser like. And when you say bouncier mighty, does that mean suspension?? Leaves and shocks like an old school gasser hahaha, that'd be sweet.

Highly considering leaves. I will need to extend the front somehow if I do. Maybe a bumper and integrate my parking lights into it? I don't know yet. I have all next week to think about it.

Yeah raised with leaves would really give it that straight axle gasser look, do you have any leaves you can use or are you gonna have to go junkyard hopping?

I don't have the luxury of a salvage to scavenge nearby.  I did see a couple 2 leaf springs at northern for $20 each.  A bit much for a build but, it would look good.  I'm pretty certain I can use the existing axle.  I also would like to eliminate the front bellcrank in the process.  Maybe a mandrel to mandrel tie-rod and going direct from the base of the steering wheel gear to a spindle on one side like modern tractors.  Doing this I hope to rid a lot of play.  Also, I think my one spindle is slightly bent?  I'll have to look into that.

Any golfcart shops nearby? Might be a place to look for used leaf springs

That'd be sweet! Golf cart wheels, steering racks and suspension parts all day long! Hahaha.

Rack and pinion would be nice. LOL

Burnout attempt 2 the other day and attempt 3 today (with bleach) were complete failures. Need more wheel spin. Also, if I keep trying, these 50 yr old tires will eventually wear out! LOL.

This will be my last attempt for now. I have another idea and I can do it without the truck I think. THat will be after some modifications.

Man, I hope to go a little work on the tractor this week. I have some angle iron for the rear mounts. I just don't know if I have enough for the front mounts. Hate to have to buy angle iron, we will see!

Cant wait to see the new front end built on this thing! What are you thinking of using for making the leaf shackles mighty?

I actually have the front bracket for the springs. I have the shackles for the rear, but no mount. I have some square stock that I can use to create a mount for the rear side. I have the bolts, but I haven't fabricated anything to attach it to the frame yet. I was thinking 2 angle iron pieces to attach to the frame to weld the mounts to. I still need some U bolts and plates or something to attach the front axle.

Digging through my severely depleted stock, I found some bits and pieces that I could "jerry rig" to make the springs work.  I thought about it for a few minutes as to how I could not "rig" it so much with what I had.  I decided to build it right (most safe and least prone to break) and dropped an Andrew Jackson on a new piece of angle iron to make a safe sturdy mount for the springs.

While at the Depot, New round front axle ideas kept floating through my head.  

A solid round axle would be sweet, that would make 'er look just like a gasser hahaha.

lol, one thing at a time.

After a long day at work and not feeling 100%, all I accomplished today was marking my angle iron for cutting.

I'll need to come up with something cool and gimmicky for the build! :-)
