| So the engine drives a toothed gear and I need it to drive a normal V belt pulley at the other end. Hmmmm The brown pulley here is the noisy idler removed from my Build-Off entry so no worries about wrecking that one ~ chop the middle out and weld in the toothed cog thing... It actually worked! Next problem ~ a pulley shaft has ghastly looseness in the bearing. To access the bearing the pulley must be removed first but is rusted on solid, absolutely solid and in a fight space with no chance of getting a puller anywhere near it, and it'd only bend the sides anyway. Sticky problem but then I came up with this ~ weld a big nut to the pulley so the bolt pushes on the shaft... Maybe that's a known trick already but it's new to me and it worked a treat so it might help any of you lot too I hope. You cut off the nut and clean up the pulley after. Now I can get to that knackered bearing but... The bearing is like new and the shaft has been rubbing itself to death inside the bearing!!! see how the shaft has worn away. Horrible. Saves buying a new bearing so that's good. My plan is to JB weld the bearing onto the shaft to take up that slack and hope I get it centred... Little job for tomorrow | |

| The shaft rotated inside the bearing? Thats strange if the bearing was still in good condition. Head Forum Administrator ** Chat Moderator ** Facebook Page AdminATLTF Facebook Page ** Chatbox ** How To Upload Pictures

| Yeah Weird. I suppose it usually depends on being a tight fit so the centre of the bearing rotates with the shaft, but if it's a bit loose to start it'll only get worse? JB to the rescue | |

| Is that your powered bagger? That's strange that the bearing rubbed the shaft. Hopefully the JB weld holds. | |

Yep, powered bagger, but not that one in the vid, I'm starting from scratch with an early Countax sweeper unit, powered by 114cc dinky little engine and clutch shamelessly robbed off a perfectly good Atco cylinder mower & that worn shaft ~ I bet it was Ridiculous Noisy!! | |

| Tidy! Always thought those Westwood/Countax sweepers were cool. My uncle had one for a while but ended up scrapping it because it was so badly rotten and had seized solid due to sitting outside for 15 years. | |

| Cautious optimism the JB will fix it. Reassembled it all today and it rotates as it should, seem to've managed not to glue the whole thing solid I've not powered it up yet (waiting for a v belt in post) but it looks good so far. Centre of bearing rotates with shaft as nature intended I notice the shaft is soft steel, maybe nothing more than mild steel even. Cheapo so no wonder the super hard bearing rubbed it away. | |

| Well the JB did a great job. I've run it without any issues. And for my next trick ~ This new pulley has an oversize centre hole so I will JBweld the original centre from the busted bearing of the old pulley (can you see why it was noisy?! ). Luckily they are a near perfect fit so degreased with paint thinners and JB them together | |
