It seems those gaskets are hit or miss. Plus it doesn't help having like 42 cubic inches of area in the crankcase being added/removed 3600 times per minute, and all that pressure difference being pulled through just a few holes. That's actually part of why pulse pumps work so well on these engines lol. Also, did you loctite the bolt for the oil slinger? I figure that would prevent any future problems. I like your idea to stiffen up the frame, but aren't you going to have to cut a big hole in the middle of it for steering? I see that box steel there, do I sense a bumper coming soon?
Yeah I was reading somewhere that these engines do have the tendency to "suck the gasket in".
The plate is going on the bottom. No need to put a hole in it for that. And yes, I'm hoping to build a bumper down the way. If you are talking about the box tube on the frame. That is how much wider the frame was on the old tractor to fit the hood! But I had planned coming off it and the bottom connection points with a new bumper.

I was looking tonight and I think I can put the old bumper back on.
What to do when it is 100 degrees out and the garage is super hot? You install the window unit you have stored in the shed in the already screwed up storm door.
Got the bottom plate installed.
Did like doc with Fuzazi and cut out the bottom plate to accept the 6 inch pulley. While grinding, I caught some reminant oil that hadn't got cleaned on fire. Smoked up the garage. Had to open the big door to let the smoke out and lost my cooling.
I did some strengthening up of the steering because the bolts have about pulled through on the plate. Reassembly has started.

Progress is being made, now I am at a roadblock. Before I can run it, I need to finally figure out the gas tank issue. I either need to patch the one I have again with something better, buy a new one (yikes) or come up with another idea like a portable/removable gas can. I'll take a few days to figure that out. I may end up patching what I have with JBweld or something since I know exactly where the leak is at this time.

HAHA... I was actually considering the megatank. I even have access to a jerry can but it's in bad shape now. New ones are about the same as a new Murray tank.
Got my old bumper reinstalled.
I have room now for a wench. One of those may be in order in the future.

I jbwelded the tank where it leaks for now until I can fab something new up. I got everything buttoned back together so I can start it up and check for leaks.
Took it for a speed run after a tune up and redoing pulleys.
Yup, 27mph. Pretty stable at that speed too.
Still a few things I need to get done. I am going to go back a hair smaller with the fronts, back to 16x16.5-8's. I also would like to do fender flares. I am pretty sold with the Doc version on Fugazi.

So a couple months back I had to go back to the old rear tires I had on the front. They are holding until I can finally get some new fronts. I was thinking of re-painting my rims when I did the tire swap?

Decided to save some $$$ and swap tires with Thor, my 77 Hydro Sears Suburban who's engine kicked the bucket back in March. Current avatar image. Took it out back in the empty lot for a stroll with the daughter on her purple people eater.
Plates did well helping with frame twist. A lot. Also, steering with the smaller tires was much easier and turned sharper. But I also have tread. Plus these are on ball bearing gokart hubs.

The rear's are done. I have to re-run my positive battery cable before I put them back on. The new one I created that I thought was a lower gauge, turned out to be higher. These oppys need all the power they can get to start. Fun stuff there.

Well I got the fronts painted, the hubs dialed in where they do not wobble and greased up. Greased the spindles while I was at it. I also re-boogered the weld on the arch pice on the bumper. The right side was breaking loose.
