Some sort of craftsman... and more!

Ive considered trying a torque converter setup... you would be hard pressed finding a centrifugal clutch that will hold up to the HP and stresses in a lawnmower I think ( I think Thunder Divine put TC in his 90mph mini deere)

I hate tight spaces and belt clutches..... But you should be able to figure something out

Went to the junkyard today... found a goodie! $19.

I'm building my first mud mower as we speak. I do not have any pictures to share with you guys right now but I will write about It for now. I got two tractors for free, a 1993 Craftsman LT4000 with a 15HP I/C OHV B&S which was seized and later un-seized and found out that the camshaft was broke. the other tractor was a 1988 Roper Rally L0815ER which was missing a wheel when I got it. after examination of the Roper the engine had amazing compression and looked really good on the inside. later on a discovered cracks in the frame of the Roper so I decided to swap the 11HP B&S onto the Craftsman's frame which was in M I N T shape. today I hooked up a battery and the ignition didn't do nothing, so I put gloves on and grabbed an old ratchet and touched it to both points of the solenoid and had a friend squirt some go go juice in the intake and it fired right up. (both tractors sat for a decade and a half with their hoods open) now its time for upcoming mods. I am going to put rear lawn tractor tires on the front as an idea from Todd Christopher "FearlessFront" and will be putting 22'' more aggressive tires on the back. of course I am going to be locking/ welding the transaxle (its a 6 speed geared, not hydrostatic). any suggestions for mods after that? my buddy suggested a 1500 lbs winch.

Yep, 633! Looks to have the smaller rear pulley on it too, more speed!

Oh I see the shaft for the high and low range now, and I see that it's an aluminum case. Whoops hahaha, whats the plan for this trans Beal? Just to have as a spare?

Yeah, spare parts for now. If I ever get around to it, Id like to use the 69 Suburban parts and build an off roader.

That would be a Tank! I enjoy by suburban, but I use mine strictly as a garden tractor.

If it had an engine, Id probably use it for yard work too...

So I want back and got the rest that I could see. $50.

Front axle matches my st10.

Nice! A pile of parts is always fun haha. Those two things in the second picture look like mule drives for a deck or something that mount to the tractor.

I'm pretty sure they are clutch pulleys for older models.

Edit: Scratch that, I see the levers now.

Yup, and they match whats on my st10 deck!

I was just going to whip out the torch and straiten the bent part, but now Ill just swap the parts. Woot.

Well, the battery cables was clipped... I didnt fell like messing around trying to fix them, since I couldnt fit my battery in there anyways. Jumper cables to th rescue!

Man this thing started right up! How cool is that??? lol

Came off a jacobsen yt? 16. The sump was integral to teh front of the tractor... welded to the frame, and also the pivot for the front axle... I would have liked to the whole thing, but I didn thave $200 to blow... bummer. It had nice rear tires...

So, made some progress on "the other thing"... I guess I did anyways.

Found an engine pulley. Thinking about running a 2:1 engine to gearbox. Not sure whats going one the gear box and axle yet...



The main bit... extended the frame! Booger welds!





I had some leftover 1x2ish... some persuading with some C clamps it fig nicely in the chunk of frame I already had.


Frame is 49 1/4in long. Still gotta add some for the front axle mount. Total length might be... around 55in. The tires will stock out past the frame some... makeshift bumpers... ha!

So,Ive got a moral delema... I cut my axle beam. I need to bend the ends up some... I didnt really want to cut an bend. Does it really matter???


While I was contemplating this, I worked on this gokart... added in the 2 square frame bits to beef it up for my lead butt...

Still need to do something for the back however....

good solid motor... wont be difficult to fab a sump

Or Ill jest nab one off of ebay for $25!

So I worked on the front axle a bit... using the cut, bend and weld method. Dont look too hard at those booger welds. I may end up making a new one, and get it bent. But, for now this will do... I might keep it in the end, I could ad in a brace on each side. Might still look bad, but itd work!

Cut and bend method. ?!?! Why have I never seen or heard that? I've done similar in the past, but that is brilliant! I may have to steal that idea.

I dunno... next time Im gona fill it with sand and get it bent. I didnt have my welder set right at first so it has some pretty sad welds...


On another note.. this go kart Im thinkin about riggin a clutch like our mowers have. Heres the planned layout, give or take a few inches ofcourse...

Ah yes, I remembered it cant be dual because the "Craftsman Thing" has a single on it, so many engines in one thread it's hard to keep track haha. So those white pipes arent for exhaust?
