| How many of you have managed to get your tractors titled as atv in your state?
What state and what did it take.
I'm working on titling in ohio with no luck.

| I have tried in WI to get a tractor registered as an ATV. They had all kinds of hoops to jump through, and in the end the decision they came up with was, " If not originally built from the factory as an ATV it cannot be titled as an ATV. | |

| Kind of the same place we are at in ohio.
I can build a car from scratch and get it inspected for road use.
I can build a trailer and get it tagged.
But I can not register my mower as an atv.

| In ohio they use titles for atv's? In New jersey I don't know what they do for ATV's, but for snowmobiles, you don't need a title to register it. You only need a previous registration or a bill of sale written up by someone. I was thinking about trying to register my simplicity as an atv. I'll have to look into it I guess. | |

| We do not title snow mobiles, all you need is bill of sale. to get a registration. But all dirt bikes, atvs and sxs now come with title and to legally sell an atv even if it didn't come with once (pre 99) you must first obtain one. Doesn't matter if it's a 1981 honda or a 2016 honda it has to be titled.

| In canada (New Brunswick) it has to have the original papers and bill of sale from previous owner before they consider registering it. So its a no go for mowers where i live, might try it though, just because they might make an exception. | |

| I figured just apply for a title and put in a number from the tractor frame as a vin. Kinda just fill it out as if it was an atv. Whatever you put in as a vin probably has to be the correct number of digits of course. Also, you don't want a number that's in use somewhere, because then of course it will show up on their computer. | |

| Title office has to visually inspect the vin here so can fudge it.
I tried to have a friend in wv register it there first, also had no luck there.

| Oh, I don't think anyone needs to see anything here in NJ as far as I know. Vermont is where everyone talks about getting titles for motorcycles and stuff. Guess it's supposed to be easy there or something. But of course you'd have to know someone there. | |

I tried to have a friend in wv register it there first, also had no luck there. are you trying to get it registered so you can go on the public trails? I got a golf cart registered but it was a lot of finagling with terminology and wording.

| That was my intention yes.
Ohio has it right in thier law saying golf carts can't be registered as atvs.

Ohio has it right in thier law saying golf carts can't be registered as atvs. I told them that it was a club car UTV which club car kind of has depending on your definition of UTV. I got it registered and took it to Perry State forest trails . You got to remember that your are likely smarter than they are and have to figure out how to fool them.

| Interesting. When I was going over the law I saw it specifically mention golf carts as not being able to be titled as such.
I've taken it to be inspected by highway patrol, they shut me down, tried 3 differant title offices acting like it was just an atv. As soon as they see it they shut it down.

You could try a VIN from a salvage quad but that could lead to trouble. I did not take my cart anywhere when I did this.

| How long ago did.you do it? Hocking, fairfield, perry, and Muskingum have all requested it be brought in for vin inspection.
Several years ago I had a guy in zanesville that would don't he inspection and sign off so.the title.office didn't need to see the atv. But he passed away and his son not as easy going.

| As far as atv vin, I won't risk that. The Rangers check at perry now (where I'd take it) and if they see a mower its.going to redflag them as is. | |

Try the license bureau and see if they can help. the plate is what you need.

| I get the same answers from everyone. Been at this about 9 months.
I've titled go carts, 6x6 amphibious vehicles, old dirtbikes, atvs, and 3 wheelers. None of the "loops" I've used on them have worked for the tractor.
My last resort is find someone from another state that can title it there, and then transfer it to me.

I took a copy of the vin to the license bureau and got it registered. I know it sounds too good to be true but that was about it. To me the definition of an all purpose vehicle is pretty broad. maybe you should try the bmv I went to. You almost have to be an attorney with these people. Also I never used the word golf cart when i did this. it was a club car utv.

| You mentioned getting a gokart titled, could you say your mower was a go-kart and get it through that way? | |

| I've thought about pulling the vin plate, putting it on a gocart, then getting title and putting it back on tractor.

| That would work until someone sees the actual tractor, then the legal hassles will start. fraud is not something to get tangled up in, especially with government entities. | |

| Kind of what I am thinking.
Pull the hood/grille. Build a go cart style roll cage out of cheap tube
Inspect is as a go kart. Then take it home and out hood and grille on
