So i participate in the garden tractor pulls around my county, and i am going to give my dynamark puller a facelift, and build her a new motor. the gearing is great on it now, but the old 11 hp is starting to smoke a lot, and i dont like that. how my gearing is currently set up, it doesnt need a boatload of power, it just needs to spin up quickly, so hence the shortstroked 12 hp. Plan is to use the 11 hp crank in the 12 hp engine and deck the head and do a lot of porting and polishing and mabye even a custom cam grind. do you all think that this would work?

I don't know how much difference there is in stroke, but you can't take that much off the block without getting down into the ports. Aren't you just going to lose a lot of displacement? Lawn tractor engines have a relatively short stroke compared to other stuff anyway. How much difference is there between the two?

the plan is to use just the crank, so that it will spin up faster, but i will deck the head vs the block.
