Anything Wrong? Ackerman Steering

So the picture on the left is one I found on a website and the one on the right is a modified version of what I plan to do, can you see any problems with it?

Nope. That's correct.

Ackerman is right. Direct steer won't work. Need another connecting spot on your king pin for drag link. Should be a good diagram on here somewhere.

Oh, I'm fine. I just completely fail to understand what's supposed to be wrong there. Y'all gotta remember- I do go karts. Go karts= direct steer. I factor in Ackermann, KPI and caster when I do them. But unless I wasn't paying full attention, I didn't see anything wrong there.

So is there anything wrong?
Any suggestions?

What, the first diagram OP drew? There's a lot wrong with that one. Steering backwards, don't get full motion range.

I guess that's a matter of perspective. If you're silly enough to take it as a scale technical drawing... Maybe. Maybe not.

Ackerman was fine. That direct steer was way off. If I get time, I'll post a pic.

ok. I polished things a bit, and clarified some stuff. Really, it's the same thing, just interpreted. Anybody?

Okay, finally got some time to post what I think needs to happen.


On left, is a simplified version of what Doc posted, what I would call go-kart/ATV steering.  Two tie rods connected to one or two pitman arms in the middle.  Works great, but usually we have an engine in the way.

On the right is what works for front engine mowers.  Steering column is not shown, because it is straight up and down for this simple drawing.  It uses an extra connection to the spindles to get the steering hooked up.

I have the steering setup on the left for the massey I absolutely love it it is a really tight setup only thing Id change is the ratio but thats because I have big tires lol
