| I need some advice on an engine choice for a project. It will need to be able to run 3 hydraulic motors, a couple of hydraulic cylinders, truck alternator power steering. You know that usual crazy idea. I mow a few yards and plan on picking up a few more, and want something for kicking grASS. I mow for the small town I live in and use a nice Bad Boy mower with a 26hp Kawasaki watercooled engine and you have to run full throttle to keep those hydraulic rear tires from squeeling like a 10 year old hydro going up a hill. Send me some links and ideas. | |

I think I got lost in here somewhere. I don't see where he says multiple pumps are required.

| I don't know how many pumps are needed. I just need to run around three hydraulic motors and 2-3 cylinders. Oh and a truck alternator and power steering. | |

| i would run 2 pumps. one for the motors and one for the cylinders, depending on the size of the pumps. | |

| Yea I was thinking on running 2 motors on one pump and the other motor and cylinders on another. Depending on the pump I get of course. | |

| thats not a bad idea either, you could probably cut back to 2 snowblower engines, like 11 or 12 horses or something along those lines, or... honda GX340 | |

| Yeah I'm not sure. That would be a good idea though, but stuff like that is hard to come by around here. I'm just trying to decide whether to build it or not, as I have early ford broncos in my sight and they ain't cheap lol. | |

| Id suggest a perkins diesel engine and a big ass john deere pump. I recommend running at minimun 25% more gpm than what you require to operate the pumps at max capacity that way you arent running your engine at full rpm all day. 2 motors on one pump would be cool if itd work but your either going to have to find a way to sink the throttles or they will work against each other. | |

Hang on- are you talking about 2 engines DRIVING one pump, or are you talking one pump driving two hydraulic motors???

he means 2 HYDRAULIC motors on one pump (driven by one engine) and the other hydraulic motor and the cylinders on another pump driven by a seperate engine

| Itd help if we had specifics... what size hydraulic motor? What power range? High torque low speed or high speed low torque? You can run motors and cylinders off the same pump not sure youd be using them constantly but my case 646 can run the loader and drive at the same time. | |

| Sorry should've been more specific. One gas/diesel engine will drive the pump(s). The pump(s) will drive 3 hydraulic motors and around 2 cylinders. I haven't gotten into the specifics on the system yet, but I'm planing on driving two different decks with two of the motors and the rear axle with the third.
One of the cylinders will be lifting the deck that will be in the normal position on any regular mower. And the other will lift the wing deck I am planing on putting on the front left side. Another problem I'm having is will the hydraulic motors be ideal to run the decks or not.
And I would also consider running two smaller engines on different pumps, not sure though.

| Hmm. One issue I foresee: Blade inertia. Is there a way to have the blades able to freewheel? There are times where they will "want" to spin faster than the motor can (or is) spinning them. This could be a bit ugly. | |

| It will still run through the pullies on the deck or will that not matter? The hydraulic motor will be in about the same place as the engine. So would the belts account for the blade inertia? | |
