| More specific for my build, a RB25DET NEO. Differences that matter between the series 1/2 RB25 and the NEO are solid lifters, better valvetrain, beefier rods, better ring setup and they fixed an issue with the crank collar engaging the oil pump. Basic part list is gonna be
- Holley 12-700 fuel pump
- Holley 512-504-5 fuel pressure regulator
- Greddy Intake manifold
- ARP hardware errywhere
- CX Racing top mount turbo manifold
- Tial 44mm MVR wastegate
- Garrett GT3582R
- Ross Truffabond harmonic balancer
- Greddy oil/water pump
- HKS SSQV BOV
- TOMEI 740cc injectors
- Splitfire coil packs
- Megasquirt MS3 Pro EMS
- ACT street strip XT clutch
There is totally a bunch of crap I'm forgetting in that list but that's the basic idea. Goal is a 450hp daily driver, and I mean daily. Thing is still gonna have heat, A/C, full interior, all of that fun stuff. While building that engine though I'm going to be running the 30-40 year old engine the RB is based off of, the L28. I might throw a turbo on this too, depends if I can find the gear cheap.

| It's pretty easy to figure out when I get paid, a bunch of neat boxes start showing up at the door. Innovate LC-2, one of the best wideband setups there is IMO. Timing chain kit because I don't trust the previous owner. - Moose wrote:

The engine from the red one is getting freshened up and thrown in to hold me over while I build up the RB25.

| Wideband is in, going to check the condition of the heater core with an aquarium pump and then I can put the dash back in. Oh hey, I knew there was color underneath all that crud! Unfortunately, that's not the only thing I found today... Here comes the carnage of what was all in the oil pan. And there's a bunch more little shavings in the oil pan itself. Now this leaves me two options. Option one, I extend my deadline for getting the car done, miss one of my favorite carshows of the year and rebuild the engine right. Option two, I slap it together with what new parts I have and run it until it dies. Ding ding ding, option two is a winner! Now, I'm sure you're all wondering where those big ol chunks came from. Yeah well me too. My first guess was casting chunks. From my experience with working on DSMs I know they have a tendency to throw off bits, and with early 80's quality control I wouldn't be that surprised. Nope. I went over everything in the crankcase with a flashlight and no jagged edges were found. Second guess was that the oil pump went kaboom. Nope. While the ring does have some pretty nasty scoring there's no chunks missing here. That's about as far as I can get today. With those two things out of the equation these chunks are pretty likely to be from somewhere behind the timing cover. Tomorrow I'll be bringing home the tools from work so that I can pull the crank pulley and get all the covers off and the mystery shall be revealed. | |

| Well, I honestly have no clue where those chunks came from. Everything in the crankcase and behind the timing cover looks okay. I even pulled some of the rod and main caps and the bearings didn't look that bad either. Not great, but not bad. Got the head and flywheel back from the machine shop, now I'm gonna button the engine back up and take it to my buddies house so we can pressure wash it. Then comes the white. Wideband controller goes in the glovebox, ECU will too once I'm finished soldering it together. As time goes on, more and more stickers make their way onto my louvers. Maybe someday the louvers will actually make their way onto the car. | |

| Looking good! Bits of metal appear to be a woodruff key, some melted pieces of something (odd) and who knows about that big piece in the center. Part of a piston skirt? You would think that much stuff in there and there would be something obvious. Kinda strange. You've got a spare engine anyway right? You can build two engines up and always have a spare in the shop. | |

I thought that one piece was part of a piston skirt too at first, but nope. And yeah, that definitely is a key but not for anything I could find. Anyways, got some brake work done today. Cutting off the backing plates for the drums. Disk brackets on! Then comes rotors, a friendly sight. At that point though I had to stop with the rears, I don't have the right hardware to bolt up the calipers. Probably going to run to Menards tomorrow and grab a bunch of stuff. With those done as far as I could I moved up to the front and replaced the rotors as well as re-packed the wheel bearings. Same story with the front calipers as the rear. After that I mounted the ECU in the glovebox along with the wideband controller, pretty soon I'll be able to get the dash back in the car. And of course I had to take a beauty shot as I was closing down for the night, damn I love this car.

MegaSquirt 1 on a V2.2 mainboard. Thankfully the distributor this engine runs has a built in ignition module so I only need to control fuel. It'll work for now but once the RB goes in I plan on upgrading to a MS3 or something Haltech.

Yeah I figured you were running megasquirt for fuel delivery because you said you have to finish soldering it together.

| Alright, kinda sorta finished up the rear brakes only to run into another problem. Can you spot the problem yet? The damn wheels don't clear. My initial measurements showed they would be just fine but they scrape by about 2mm. Hopefully I can get enough clearance with a spacer. At least there were no problems with the fronts. | |
