Brrr. Do you have one of those kerosene rocket heaters? Point it right at the engine block. That'll get it to start without ether.

Hard to tell from the vid, but did you adjust the valves so the compression release would operate properly? It definitely was not working upon initial cranking.

Looks way to cold there to be working on metal outside.

Great start! I've got one of those jd 111's, very tough little machine, mine just needs a little more leg room. I would love to swap in a twin, but for me oppys eat too much gas, and I will probably just end up tweaking the governor on the 11 horse flatty.

@b440 I unfortunately don't have a kerosene heater been looking at them but I keep having to buy truck and tractor parts but I have been looking at block heaters so I may invest in one of those well see :p I have a lot more free time in the winter than spring and summer so I gotta do my work in the winter while the construction season is slow

@802 you don't really have to just tweak the governor I was never really a believer in the "bolt on power" of carb swaps but I have a 10 horse in my simplicity that I swapped the carb off the deere onto 11 horse carb on a 10 horse motor you'd be surprised it was kinda hard to get tuned I have to mess with it when the weather changes but it seems to have a bit more oompf in the rearwards department so if all else get rid of the governor and slap a 12.5 carb on that's what I may end up doing with the motor I pulled from the deere!

so it was about 40 degrees F today got a whole lot of stuff done between the massey and the deere even got the work space cleaned up a bit to have some room to work!

Anywho I started on the front suspension or lack thereof cut a piece of 1.5" square thick wall tube for the axle need to order some 3/4" heims for the adjustable hangulations and stuff and I also got a piece of flat bar for the mounting of the heims!

Did some "welding" today really need more heat in my welder.

Something else to note! welding around a oily messy grassy frame sucks! I set it on fire a couple times.

I'd recommend some triangles... Especially where that axle is welded to the frame...

Other than that she looks good!

Yea, only weak point is where the flat stock is welded to the beam. Just throw in a gusset where the nut is or the like and should be fine. You'd have to drop it very hard do bend that all up

yeah been throwing around gusset ideas Ill figure one out eventually lol. Now! I had a pretty fun day! What do:

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 ElzFNWol
These

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 VDlLECtl
This

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 XpFxf1Rl
And this have in common?

One bad gas tank :O

So I got the idea of strapping a bomb to the back of the deere for a gas tank... Sound like a bad idea? Probably but Im doing it anyway!
I got half a airtank and was beating it around the shop trying to figure out if I wanted to weld a cone on or what then I thought of gluing in a pvc joint so that is what I started doing!.

The airtank is kinda a oddball size when it comes to pvc fittings so I had to come up with a way to turn it down hence the tablesaw "lathe" my dad got a new bandsaw so I put him to work cutting out the circle because I couldnt cut a crooked line if I wanted to :v lol!

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 QPbxlI3l
Huge mess.

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 TDVOU8sl
Did the job though!

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 4T0ah6gl
Looks ok but needs some lovins.

I used a box from one of my favorite places in the world to mock up the tail fin assembly not sure if Ill build that out of wood or metal or plastic or a combination. *shrug* Im gonna be bondoing the area between the 6" and 4" reducers to make it look a bit more like a continuous angle like the WWII bombs.

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 UVJgT6il

So yeah Im not insane I just thought it looked cool!

wow havent updated in a while... Well I gusseted the front end and all that jazz got it figured out pretty good then removed the deck lift just to clean it up a bit and keep from being skewered in a wreck if it does wreck :p In the process of getting the head bolt out of the 12.5 that was stuck in there I found out the fins were cut deeper into the block than anticipated so it is now scrap. I took the intek crank case apart pulled the governor and checked to see if the holes lined up so were good there just need to get gaskets and all that fun stuff and Ill be up and running hopefully. On to the pics!

Motor test mount had to cut out for the oil filter and the drain line which needs extended.

Lack of deck lift lever, it is now just a tractor no more mow!

I test fitted the top half of the 820 and there are a few clearance issues that will need grinding.

Out at mowron central! I brought the frame for q&a so it totally counts as a tractor pic!

The start of my shifter for the deere! I will be trying to do a few part series on how to layout and machine acrylic so you guys can make custom shifter knobs too!

I left the data plate because it fit the military theme!

deere - Slant Industries T111 (John Deere 111) [Pic heavy] - Page 2 VKXmDWTl
I stole the wheels off the massey because Im going to use the same wheel. I was going to get spindles and hubs from surplus center for a trailer axle but the measurments were leaning towards wheels thatd stick out a lot further than I wanted. This way the wheels are out far enough for stability but still look decent and give me room for fenders if I can find some I like!

Check BMI for spindles.

I welded up the spindles from some pipe and plate and some 3/4" bolts I think they will work well just have to weld them in nice and hot. Got a nice 12.5 off Craigslist this morning just gonna pop the bottom delete the go near and put it back together no messing around with other stuff. As for wheels those will be staying because they are dot approved so yay high speed!

They also have a pretty beefy load rating think the tire said something like 50 psi I'm running them at 30
