| Afternoon folks, hope all is well wherever you are. So I'm new to modifyin lawn tractors, but I've been messing with various small engines since I could hold a wrench. After purchasing a fancy new zero-turn mower, the old family turd snapper rer was just sitting there, lonely, forgotte. .... until I sstumbled across a couple of videos with guys mudding on lawn tractors and then a single rotor mower! So then it was like BANG! this thing must be repurposed, and I'm determined to make it work.
So I'm Jim, and I'd like to know if anyone has made a Snapper RER a decent mudder or just general fun-mobile?
Even if you haven't, I'm determined to make it out-perform regular front engine mowers. | |

| Well first off, welcome to the forum and good luck. I've never liked working with them but if you've got the patience then go for it. Greener179 is one of the big rer guys here but I don't think he's posted in a while. I know Strech44875 has a pretty cool little machine too. | |

| Welcome!
A lot of RER capability comes from its drivetrain. RERs tend to use what is called "friction drive", which is usually a horizontal disc off the engine powering a vertical disc on the axle. They have a tendency to slip under high torque applications or anything other than mowing.
Lots of RERs used chain drive too, which if you have one you are off to a fantastic start. Head Forum Administrator ** Chat Moderator ** Facebook Page AdminATLTF Facebook Page ** Chatbox ** How To Upload Pictures

| Thanks for the friendly welcome, it seems I have the friction drive, but that won'tbe in the way long. I started a build thread if anyone is interested. | |
