tractor - Mower or Tractor? Empty
PostSubject: Mower or Tractor?    tractor - Mower or Tractor? Icon_minitimeOctober 31st 2013, 8:01 am

I was talking to my friend yesturday about my "tractor" and he kinda stopped me and said, "isnt it a mower?" i argued that mowers are for, well, cutting grass, and sence theres no deck, its a tractor. I thought about it that tractors are only for agricultural purposes but it seems silly to call it a mower when it will never cut grass again, so, what you guys think?

All riding mowers are tractors so to speak. Garden tractors are their heavier duty counterpart. I interchange both mower and tractor depending on who i am talking to but i prefer tractor.

This is reminiscent of the whole motor/engine debate.

Here's how I view it: "mower" is a specific descriptor idicating a device that can cut grass. The vasr majority of the machines we depict here are entirely incapable of cutting grass.

On the other hand, "tractor" is a pretty broad-spectrum term that could safely be used to describe everything from your little lawn machines to various material handling equipment of an industrial nature, to the business end of those big diesel thingies you see on the roads everyday (tractor-trailers).

I believe the term tractor derives from the term traction engine, something capable of pushing, pulling or driving an implement or load.

How about this- you are on the All Terrain Lawn TRACTOR FORUM...LOL
