| First thing i noticed when i got my montgomery was there was no brakes, not bad, no brakes. I have no idea what to do. I never worked on brakes for a tractor. If you have your own setup, please send me a link, thanks. Nick | |

| Well- depends what you want to accomplish. If speeds are to be relatively low, you can get away with factory brakes, which shouldn't be too hard to lay hands on. If, for example, you've got a Peerless transaxle, the factory brake caliper and rotor from many, many other model Peerless units will fit up. Suppose you have the dead-common 800 series, you can source the brakes from any 800 or 900 transaxle, and even from a 700 series transmission. There are more too, I believe.
On the other hand- if you're shooting for higher speeds, it's probably best to ditch the factory brake idea and aim higher. This, however, will require some serious thought and fabrication on your part. | |

| i just checked and noticed there are the remains of what is left of it. Its just a piece of bent metal with a couple of nuts holding it on. It was striped of the actual brake but its not hooked up. i want to go 30+ on it so i dont think it matters for the stock brakes anyways. What should i do then if im gonna need to make the brakes for it. | |

| Check around on the internet for go kart brakes. There are band brakes and disk setups. Or you could adapt some brakes from a small car, although that might be on the heavy side. Might be pretty easy to weld a flange to your axle and bolt on a go kart drum or disk. Would work better if your going to lock the rear, just so it doesn't only lock up one side. | |

| Not really. There is very little surface area to the pads, and the caliper does not develop a lot or force. In addition, the factory rotor had a very small diameter, which means the brake does not have much leverage on the driveline. | |
