twin - 16hp twin carb? Empty
PostSubject: 16hp twin carb?   twin - 16hp twin carb? Icon_minitimeMay 25th 2013, 8:49 pm

I have a 16hp twin and i have been having a heck of a time getting it running right. My question is, on the carb behind the drain plug is that a jet that can be screwed out. my problem is with it is it looks like some has went nuts on that jet with a screw driver. If it cant be removed i am going to have to drill and tap it for a jet from a motorcycle carb.

In the picture its the jet right where the tip of my screw driver is.

Thanks guys.

Gah! No wonder it runs poorly, it's in dire need of a cleaning! That IS the main jet, should be accessible from outside the bowl. You may be able to clean it with a bit of fine wire. For removal, I believe it's a hex-head. I once had one that was so stuck, the hex stripped out. I removed it with a spiral fluted extractor. Then, I filed a couple slots in it so a large flathead screwdriver could be used for re-installation.

cleaning is in progress. That jet looks like some tried to dig it out with a screw driver, its ugly. I found a parts diagram on this carb and there is no sign of this jet being removable. Guess i may have to drill and tap it.

I did it, I drilled and tapped it so i can use main jets from Keihn motorcycle carbs. And the good thing is i have a collection of those jets from my dirt bike i raced. And from several other motorcycle carbs i have worked on over the years. I think i will see how i can get it to run tomorrow. Some thing about carburetors, i really like working on them. I bet i have rebuilt a couple hundred of them.

I got it all put back together. took some playing with the jets. Actually it would cut out with the largest jet i had so i used a small drill bit to make it larger. Now the thing runs better then ever. Top rpm is higher, idle is great and it seems to have more power. I will take it out for a run some time soon, i need to get a battery for it.

I will let you know how it works.

Oh the tap size was a M5x0.8 for those jets.

Top RPM is higher? You must have yanked the governor. I was going to offer to size the jet orifice for you, but it sounds like you're good to go. Right on!
