Rope instead of belt

Heres my idea. instead of being stranded with a broke belt. why not find some rope that's strong enough to use to drive back home.
i realise you'd have to put a knot in it, but that wouldnt really matter would it? Just throwin' this out there

The knot is kinda the issue here. If you don't know how to splice it.

Wouldnt work. Belts are designed to grab the V sides for traction. A rope would have a very slim traction point. Also, the knot will hit every retainer it tries to go by, and you can forget about it going past the clutch.

You would be better off buying a spare belt. Youre gonna need one anyways if your belt breaks, might as well as have it on hand.

Yeah Doug is right the knot is the probolem

and not to memtion tha a rope would strech a lot quicker

Why not just bring an extra belt?

i was thinking of trying it, nut i couldnt get my mower started. but still. i think it would work in a emergency

Like said, rope isnt the same as a V belt.

Industrial size (Im sure SOMEBODY MAKES IT) Paracord....or Nylon rope think enough so you could melt the ends together...no idea how that'll hold up to abuse though.

There are pulleys for round rope profiles. But like I say above, it's the knot that's the problem.

everybody's converting me on this one. im beginning to wonder if it'll work too. ill have to find some good, thick rope first.
