13.5 briggs ic gold problems!

i have for a while been having problems with my 13.5 briggs and sratton ic gold engine. it has never run right after carb rebuilds and ect. Also, i believe the carb bowl bolt hole in the main carb is stripped out. Any suggestions because it slowly but constantly leaks and wastes my gas. Would i be able to run like a 12.5 briggs carb on it and put the internals of my current carb in it or is it only strictly 13.5 briggs ic gold engine carbs?

Most carbs from briggs run on the same brand engine, and really, after I cracked open my first 5, I found out that all briggs REALLY changes is the piston size.

Ya that's true with most engines. Most sizes in one brand are similar. What year is this motor? If the carb and the intake neck are all one piece it would probably be easier to swap. Just open up the needles a little bit more.

Yup I'd throw a new one on there, maybe open up one of the screws a little bit, and try it! Do you have another one?

No i dont have another one. But we're going to try to put a helicoil in it, as reccomended by Feerlessfront, and see what happens from there. if it doesnt work ill try to find one for cheap somewhere and just swap out the internals.

By the way what are your symptoms of "rough running"? If it's surging, no one can fix it. other issues could be valve related.

it is surging a bit but that doesnt bother me. it idles somethimes but other times it doesnt. then whenever i park it and i go out the next morning, 1/2 the tank is gone! plus it worries me than the bowl is just barely hanging on and im afraid of hitting a boulder or somethime and the bowl falling off and losing the parts. Of coarse, if that did happen, id be best off because i would have no option but of sucking it up and spending the money for a new one!

Finally fot it fixed today! i ended up getting a bolt just a bit longer than the original one allowing it to thread in another 3-4 threads without effecting the jets and it runs great and doesnt leak. YEEAAA!

Let me restate that, it runs great BUT still leaks slowly. i think that i actually need a seal on the bowl bolt instead of the o-ring currently on it. so i think ill just buy like a seal kit it if i can then replace them all.
