Don't use a CVT with a tranny it will kill the CVT belt really quickly because the two pulleys changing all the time

You wont need a CVT, but something like it. AKA a jackshaft. Its basically a stationary CVT. You would use a normal front clutch and then one idler on the top belt. You could even use a chain on the top if you wanted. But if you want a reliable drivetrain, a CVT isnt the way to go.

Yeah, and the 20hp rated cvt is kickass, but expensive!

Ya he's got a point, maybe if you don't use the gears that much. But choose what gear before you start running. Idk, will see

I'm so glad I bought the Jonsered/ Craftsman, since there's tons of odd tiny bit odds and ends I realized I would need, but didn't have before.

And I really would like some sort of front suspension like an inch or so, but can't decide if and how.

A-arm type or easy 4-link. gah choices!

Not much news, just ordered more parts, needed to measure out the rest of the build.

so I needed a proper seat, Outlaw Lawnmower Race Seat

and some misc pipe for the exhaust.

all from www.eccarburetors.com

I also ordered some bearing hangers and pulleys from surplus.

Front, 4-link design. Already changed this, kingpin (built in camber) is only 10 degrees here (mixed it up with caster :p ) will increase to 14 degrees.

My Idea for the 3-pulley Racing clutch design.

Less moving parts, one sliding Pulley for actuation as the actual clutch, Ballbearing race.

So after thinking a lot what to choose for a drive train for my mower. - I've settled on a CVTech Series 80 Clutch, then via a Jack shaft to a chain drive(If im not flipping the 820-037).
- So if i did the calculations correctly it should do 92MPH in 5th Gear. (Left). Right is for a more Torque/ mid range gearing set at 7500rpm (Right). All with 16" Wheels.

92mph? My new Project, Racing mower! Craftsman / Jonsered LT12 - Page 2 CALC_SPEED_MPH_zps3d97c186

820-037 Gearing:
For the technically-minded*, the Forward-shift gear ratios are: 1st) 4.55:1; 2nd) 1.50:1; 3rd) 1:00:1; 4th) 0.79:1; and 5th) 0.61:1.
Input pinion ratio is 2.54:1, final-drive/differential ratio is 8.02:1, and Reverse is 2.00:1. Other gear ratios are available for this trans axle.

Gearshift/ RPM.
92mph? My new Project, Racing mower! Craftsman / Jonsered LT12 - Page 2 CALC_SPEED_zpsd22c79f8

CVTech
92mph? My new Project, Racing mower! Craftsman / Jonsered LT12 - Page 2 CVTech_DIA_zpsd6cab215

Pulley size from Engine to Jack Shaft (CVTech)
92mph? My new Project, Racing mower! Craftsman / Jonsered LT12 - Page 2 CVTech_zps6b674f4e

Then Jack shaft via Sprockets/ Chain to 5/8" Input shaft on the 820 Peerless.
92mph? My new Project, Racing mower! Craftsman / Jonsered LT12 - Page 2 CVTech_DIA_3_8inchsprocket_zps7a2d9f5a

And then same but with a "milder" gearing Torque/ mid range.

hope you plan on running this thing for strictly for drag racing. Mower fames are a little narrow when it comes to stability. Mine sits 46 in long by 32 in wide, 33 in tall, and on a 90 degree corner going 20, I feel like I'm going to tip. While Im probably just over boarding this thing, I really hope you plan on adding some sort of wind-shield. Running 90-some miles and hour and hitting a horsefly or something is going to HURT

Thanks for your concern, but this will be custom built, and not limited by any Width restrictions. the only limit is my head. I figured this would be 46-48" wide in the front, not so wide in the back. - The 820-037 Peerless is 30" wide total. With 9" wide rims should make it, Well 30+9+9- offset and bolt on. aprox: 45" wide in the rear. And it will be 2-5" of ground clearance. and no windshield. Shocked

Helmet and old school racing goggles Exclamation What a Face
