| Damn, that sux! I did that once, a looooong time ago. After that I stopped messing with the governors. There's safer ways of going faster! But at least you got a new motor! How does it run? did it burn any oil when you fired it up?
Oh yeah, nice engine slug! He looks like he's loving that oil and grease!

| thanks, and yea at first the guy accidentaly sold me a 12.5 with a bad rod so we went back and the guy told me to go back and pick out whatever motor and that there were some twins there and i was gonna get a twin for it but none of them had a carb so i just took the 11hp and hopefully it works out good. im gonna go back to the same guy and see if i can get the one craftsman he has out back | |

| well knock on wood, i have never had a rod come free in real life situations, also i am going to leave my 11hp engine govnered cause i don't want to loose the motor, also you have the same exact engine as me. i want a twin, this one guy is selling a 19.5hp opposed twin for 100 bucks, i may consider it. cause its the i/c version too. | |

| well ive had this tractor for awhile now and ive bypassed the governor alot in its time, you can tie a string around the arm and when you need more power pull back on it but only ddo it for a couple seconds, but i personally dont have much luck so im gonna leave mine alone | |

| A twin could have been awesome, Shame they didnt have carbs though. What was your old engine? Im after the governer linkages between the carb and the gov. arm for an 11hp Briggs. With the older style carb. I pulled some of an 8hp but theyre just too short!
Motorhead: Thats an awesome deal on one of those engines. I'd get it while you can!

| Chunk: You can weld aluminum - has to be CLEAN tho - a freind at my old job welded up my spare deck mandrel housing for the toro - flange had cracked- he sonic cleaned it, heated it up and manged to weld it.
About welding blocks- well if somehow nothing else inside was damaged- just a small hole in the block- possibly. Usually when they go- its fatal tearing a bunch of stuff away inside.
Ive never had a motor let loose - dad did because he messed with the governer.....

| The only motors I've ever been able to blow were the old 8HP B&S with no cast iron sleeve, and 1 Tecumseh 12Hp OHV. All my 10, 11, 12, and 12.5's are bulletproof with no governor, as long as the oil is kept full and changed regularly, AND not over-revved with no load. But I've seen countless new I/C gold motors blown while mowing lawns in tractors because of people never checking their oil Of course if you get your hands on a motor that's already been damaged and remove the governor, there's mot much you can do but blame it on the previous owner lol. | |

| I'd still watch. Espeiaclly with the 12.5's, they have really weak rods. Some people have no problems running wihtout governers. I suppose it jsut depends how high you rev it, and how long for. And as you said, engine maintainance. | |

| As Chunk mentioned the 12.5 briggs power builts were crappy motors- casting flaw in the rods - ive gotten 3 tractors with that motor and all were DOA when i drug em home, all with shattered rods. An upgrade is a 14.5OHV briggs rod to replace the crappy stock 12.5 rod.
I have everything from a 5HP briggs to a 20HP onan ( that doesnt run yet- no spark) - in the 16 years ive tinkered on tractors, ive never blown an engine up. Come close when i fired up a 11HP briggs with no oil ( drained it to change the drain tube and forgot) and a few leaked fuel by into the oil - never wasted a motor.
Im also trying an experement- making a fast tractor using the governer, stock motor- my 18.5HP opposed twin took my murray 6 speed into the upper 30mph range ( i couldve gone faster- tractor was too unstable) - i cant see the need to remove a governer , unless youre aiming for insane amounts of speed ( which means a whole ton of cash for special speed parts).
Yepper , owner neglect is the highest reason for motor/tractor failures-
