Had a bunch of people hound me to join so fine im here hope your happy!!
Long story short I bought my first welder when i was 13 and made my first mud mower when i was 14. When i went to collage at 17 I got into cars and my 18 year old summer sold every thing to put the money into my car at the time. Now years lattor I got into buying fixxing and selling lawn tractors again and started a youtube channel Redneck computer Geek doing how to's on everything i do. A friend of mine was over to help me on a project and joked about building another mud mower. I dismissed the joke at the time but latter it started to come into my mind more and more.
At 29 now and with the knowledge i never had as a 14 year old and resources I could only dream about back then. I'm back in the game. No holds barred on the expenses I am making the machine of my 14 year old dreams. With that lets get on to the pics and videos.
This is a video of the machine when i brought it home
For the next 6 months i gathered parts a lot has changed in 15 years and had to redo much of my old research. With all the parts gathered I made this preview video
From there It was on. Front tires are the easiest upgrade so i started there.
I then moved to the rear and started on the tranny. (on a side note this is not the tranny i plan to stay with I wish to upgrade to a craftsman gt with a one inch axle.) This video shows the whole thing
This show the way and old timer taught me to swap rear pully size.
Looks like a good start. I speed up my first one when I was 14 also, got back into it about 12 years ago, I'm now 38. Learned a lot since I was a kid. I have a vid of the 1 in axle transmission I use, and what I did to modify it, on youtube. it's a peerless 820, more than likely the same one you have.
Nice project - back when i was younger i often wish id gotten into modding tractors more myself - my first 'serious' machine wasnt built until a few years ago and that was basically a big motor and pulley swap on a basic stock tractor for some speed runs.
Its a learning curve, building them better and stronger each time.
I have a few speed mods in the works and a trail tractor as well ( an old murray GT with 1" spindles/axles) with a possible 4x4 setup. Time is my issue, just dont have any spare time to tinker.
New belt came in!!! wow does this thing do a donuts in the snow. Going to work to get the headlight mod done. Video of playing in the snow to come this weekend

The only problem I have come accost so far is the shifter but from what i have been able to find on mytractorforum.com talking to the old timmers there is a bushing that is notorious for wearing out. Im going to buy a few plastic sleeves and see if i can tighten it up. I also am going to have to add weight in some form to the rear. Even taking off in 1st gear seems to spin tires in the snow.
Also what do you think will be the first thing to break and and what would you invest the next 50.00 into if you had it. Im in debate on buying a piece of steal long enough to make a skid plate that runs the whole length of the mower.

After looking at what you have there, I can't find much that looks to fail at the speed you are running it.
We dealt with a lot of frame cracks with our older tractors (we are REALLY hard on them), but you are using a similar frame to our current ones, and we haven't cracked them yet *knock knock*.
The one thing we do have to fight with are the shifter keys in the transmission. I think the reason we chew them up is we sped the tractors up using custom final drive gears inside the transmissions rather than entirely with the pulleys, so that shouldn't be (as much of) an issue for you either.
Not exactly a breakage point, but you should look at upgrading belt retainers. The stock ones suck. Check out the belt gates we came up with, we rarely drop a belt, and its easy to change them out.
(Edited to add) - You might want to invest in heim style tie rod ends for all steering points. Having one of the stock ones pop apart while romping sucks.

This will be an on going project. I hate the pivot axle front end and plane to build something better. I need to get better traction and a hitch on the rear end. The 22 inch tires are nice but I want to hit 28 and move the 22 to the front.

We had broken differential welds on and off before we went to straight axles. From what I have seen, the secret to a good lincoln locker is lots of weld. You about have to weld it into a solid mass.

Well if i can get the baby to pas out on time in 1.5 hours i plan to start dropping a tranny and find out what went to hell. Having just had it out a month ago it should drop out easy enough
Same thing happened on my 85 LT 12 - had been running it for about a week or so around ( still had original grease in trans) - went to take off and the whole trans locked solid - sorta glad it did it at take not at 20 plus MPH....
About 5 teeth were broken off the pinions, whole thing crunched together.
I ran my 94 mod murray with a 6 speed around for almost 2 years at 30MPH plus , i poured most of a quart of lucas oil additive in the trans- some thick stuff!
