| I have Ariens YT11 with a foote 3 speed transaxel with a pully swap, and I am converting it to a puller/mudder do you know what I would need to make it a better puller/mudder?

| if you wanted to put a little money into it you could convert it to chain drive with a centrifugal clutch on the engine and sprocket on the back with a chain running front to rear, I dont know if would work but it seems like it would, you would probably need some idler sprockets to prevent it from the slack in it. that would prevent the slipping then try putting weight on the front of the tractor so you dont pull a wheelie and put a little more digressive tires on it for grass. Thats what I think would need to be done if you want to make it into a puller and a mudder just mainly a pulley swap, aggressive tires and lock the rear end. | |

| I have better tires on it right now from a 70s Craftsmen LT10, Ive thought about using a chain but it isn't a good Idea because it uses a double belt setup, and that it would make alot of noise. Do you know how to post pictures? I can't figure it out cause, I'm new to this forum. | |

| you could use a toothed belt and pulleys with a bike clutch on the gearbox.
you need to upload pics to a photo hosting site like photobucket and then copy and paste the IMG code into your post.

| The best way to see how the best pulling setups are built is to either talk to people at lawntractor pulls or check out different pulling websites - i went to a lawntractor pull a few years ago , seemed like most the machines there were older model cub cadets.
Depends how much you want to invest in the sport as well , i used to work with a guy that modded a wheelhorse for pulling, he dumped more then $5000 into the motor alone.
To post pics you can simply click on the tag in the reply box where it shows the 'monitors' and filmstrip- the first icon - ( above where you type- the 'tags' section ) - can add pics right from a folder on your computer easily.

| Id use a heavy guage wire - it can be wired direct to the battery pretty easy. Id run two leads back to the battery ( so grounding issues wont pop up) - one positive one negative - the positive should be run to a switch on the dash , basically cutting the wire and installing the switch. | |

| That is what I thought about doing but wasnt sure about doing it that way. Would the old school headlights blow if done incorrectly? | |

| I would recommend, at the least, an in line fuse as well... if the hot grounds out a lawnmower battery has enough juice to cause a fire. Put the fuse in the positive lead within a few inches of the battery. Nobody wants to see you lose any amount of work on your tractor to a fire. | |

| If all other gears work ok, then you just have a problem with 1st. I'd consider taking the gearbox apart and check it.
Something may have broken and is now stuck in the centre of the 1st gear cog stopping the shifting bars from engaging into that gear.

| Ok I tryed that it is free nothing is broken i think something in the shift links is bent, I can get it into it but every now and then it comes out of gear and I just use 2nd gear all the time anyways, I got a cluch pedal and a brake pedal so it isnt a problem I'll get a few photos of it soon. | |

| Ive allways liked E3 plugs it helps me with cold starts, I run them in my tractors and my weedwackers . There isnt much if any power increase I did notice slightly better fuel econmy. | |

| Same thing with my tractor better cold starts, better fuel econmy but really smoky useing choke for my tractor, plus something I bet you didn't know but the flame from the fuel burning is blue not yellow, I know this because my muffler bolt is broken so I can see the flames coming from the valve, Not sure if that is good or not. | |

| Id try to fix the muffler bolt issue - it can eventually burn a valve if left that way.
I used an E3 plug in my old '82 dynamark , back when a freind and I were tweeking our mowing tractors to run more efficiently - even had one of those magnet things on the fuel line - contantly tuned and tweeked my tractor , but never saw any real improvement in power, running or fuel use.
On the other hand, he sed his JD stopped guzzling gas and actually ran and started better ( used to use two tank fulls on his yard, later he only used one) - his probably just needed a tuning up/tweeking.

| That is cool that your friends tractor uses less fuel,I think what I am going to do for the muffler replace is use some sewer pipe down the side of the footrest making sidepipes. | |
