| Looks like a statement with a question mark attached to the end to me. | |

| Smaller on the engine = more power less speed... Larger on the engine = more speed less power... Smaller on the tranny = more speed less power... Larger on the tranny = more power and less speed... | |

| The two pulleys together set a ratio, think of a ten speed bicycle and the gears . smaller front (engine)+ big rear(trans) = lower speed but easier turning (more power) Then change it to big front+ small rear= more speed but harder to turn (less power) The fact that the transaxle has more than one gear allows speed at high gear but lets you retain some power at low gears even with a pulley swap. So to sum it up both pulleys work to set the final drive ratio. | |

| Just changing one pulley will still change the ratio. I don't know if it will be enough to do what you want to do. You will also have to change the belt size, to keep the clutch pulley at the proper tension. Too long a belt and it will slip, too short and it won't release. | |

| umm thats a good question when u have small one on the engine u get more torque and when u have a smaller one on the transmission u get speed. idk how that would work i want to know how that works. | |

| If you make both pulleys small, you will have less grip on the belt, so you will probably slip and/or burn up belts trying to do wheelies. If you are going to make both pulleys the same size, you should probably go bigger. I'll try to make what was stated earlier easier to understand: changing pulleys is about the difference in size between the engine and transmission pulleys. If a pulley is bigger, the belt has further to go each time the pulley turns. The effect of this is - If you increase the size of the engine's pulley and/or decrease the size of the transmission's pulley, the belt travels farther on the engine's pulley for each turn of the engine, so the transmissions pulley has to spin more. This makes the tractor go faster than before at a given engine speed. | |

| I ran a 6" on the motor ( twin 18HP) and a 3" on the trans on my mod murray - even with a hand throttle it lagged - more then likely a different carb wouldve help , but motor lagged for just a few seconds then it was there - i didnt have any lack of power or speed once it hooked up - i wound the tractor to roughly 35mph before it was just too hard to control being nearly stock- it had ALOT more to go like 2 more gears and i wasnt even hardly using the motor power .
After that i wasnt interested in finding out what it had - wasnt worth going to the hospital if something happened - i took it apart. | |
