| Hello, Today I picked up a JD 312 with mower deck for 200 bucks. It starts and runs but does not move. The guy said he was having problems getting it out of Neutral because of 2 pins on the tranny were stuck or something like that? Any idea how to get them unstuck or to eliminate this problem.. Any help would be appreciated.. | |

| With the 312 being a hydro... shifting issues are likely in the linkage from the lever to the transaxle. Now, if everything is working like it should from the dash to the transaxle you may have a much bigger issue at hand. That said, Any 300 series Deere is one heck of a machine for $200 | |

| ok, I went through it ripped off the fenders and gas tank..Here is what I have done. 1- all of the linkage from the dash to the rearend is working. When in air and running the rear tires do not move when put in forward and reverse on the dash. 2- I thought it was perhaps those 2 buttons that lock the rearend in to nutral were stuck. They were not. 3 I tried to put fluid in it but that did not help. 4- I found a broken line that goes from the bottom of the rearend to the top with a filter. The part from the filter to the top was missing a line so I replaced that. That did not help What I also found was that the shaft goes in to the rearend has a fan that is behind the rearend that is not spinning. Any ideas? Will shoot video.. | |

| The fan isn't spinning? Then something is wrong between the engine & the charge pump. That driveshaft uses a keyway and roll pins, one of which may have sheered. Deere.com has IPL's by model, look under residential equipment. | |

| 45 seconds in you can see where the driveshaft couples to the charge pump... is that spinning when the engine is running? Those couplings use roll pins thru the driveshaft & input shaft for the pump which can & will sheer off. | |

| No, the pins are thru the couplers that connect to the shaft coming out of the pump & to the engine. Deere.com had IPL's for free, just look under residential equipment & enter your model number | |

| So now I have a leak in the rearend. I am unsure where it is coming from. Sheesh I just get it fixed and something else happens. What kind of fluid should I run in the rearend? Anyone know how I can find the leak? | |

| I think the reason why it was leaking is because my buddy who was helping me with it put 90 weight oil in the back thinking it was low. So I drove it around and he told me. Then I noticed it dripping a few drops. so I just pulled off the filter and put it on an incline to let all of the oil drain out. I am going to go over to get some ATF fluid and refill it. Hopefully I did not bust any lines.. | |
